2009 American Heroes Golf Classic

Offers the 3rd annual golf classic event to support programs for military families who have been affected by the war. Register online.

2009 MorganFranklin Golf Classic

Offers a golf tournament that benefits the Wounded Warrior Project. The tournament takes place on August 31, 2009, at The Courses at Andrews Air Force Base. Register online to attend the event.

2009 National Veterans Wheelchair Games

A multi-event sports and rehabilitation program for Veterans who use wheelchairs for sports competition due to spinal cord injuries, amputations or certain neurological problems. The National Veterans Wheelchair Games is the largest annual wheelchair sports event in the world. Download the volunteer application.

2009 Run for Wounded Warriors Marathon

Join the 2009 Marine Corps Marathon on May 17th and October 25th to help US combat-wounded soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as Veterans from previous wars.

American Freedom Foundation

Runs the American Freedom Festival. Raises money and awareness regarding welfare and educational issues facing those wounded in action or disabled and families of Veterans killed in action during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Family Engagement Kit 2009

Educates families on safety matters to help prevent accidents from occurring when soldiers are off-duty. This multi-media kit includes a Travel Risk Planning System (TriPS), a Web-based planning tool requiring an AKO login to help you examine and reduce the risk of traveling when using your personal automobile or motorcycle. Also explains how alcohol, fatigue and post-traumatic stress disorder can endanger drivers.

Fishing Has No Boundaries

Gives people with disabilities opportunities to learn and enjoy fishing in 11 states with the use of adaptive angling equipment.

Golf 4 Freedom

Provides financial aid to wounded Veterans and the spouses and children of soldiers who have been killed in action.

Golf for Veterans with Disabilities Video

Veterans with disabilities, including those who are legally blind, gain the therapeutic benefits of renewed joy, new friends and physical activity by learning to play golf. Register for the annual National Veterans Tee Tournament, which is hosted annually by the Iowa City VA Medical Center.

National Ability Center

Offers a broad range of sports programs and outdoor activities for individuals with both physical and developmental disabilities through the use of adapted equipment, trained instructors, volunteers and specialized techniques.

National Amputation Foundation

Provides programs and services to help Veterans who lost a limb or limbs in service to their country. Programs include peer counseling, medical equipment donation and recreational activities.

National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic (NVSSC)

The NVSSC gives disabled Veterans an opportunity for self development and challenge through education and recreational activities. It promotes rehabilitation by teaching summer sporting activities to veterans with significant physical or psychological impairments.

Navy Bowling

Offers programs and provides modern bowling centers to military patrons interested in the sport of bowling.

Navy Morale, Welfare & Recreation Division

Administers recreation, social and community support activities throughout Navy facilities worldwide. North American Riding for the Handicapped, Inc. (NARHA)

Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) of America - PGA Foundation

Provides golf instruction to individuals with disabilities, with referrals to local instructors and facilities. Also, PGA has partnered with Disabled Sports USA and the DoD to sponsor a program for severely wounded Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing

Dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled Active Duty military personnel and Veterans through fly fishing and fly tying education and outings.

Re-Creation USA

Offers a patriotically-enthusiastic troupe of talented young performers whose musical and theatrical shows at VA medical centers lift the spirits of hospitalized Veterans.

Recreational & Athletic Activities for Wounded Warriors

Provides wounded Veterans with wheelchair tennis, hand cycling, wheelchair rugby, sledge hockey, sitting volleyball, basketball, dancing and alpine skiing other sports and recreational activities.

Road2Recovery

Provides financial assistance for Veterans cycling programs and offers cycling equipment, clinics and outings for Veterans to improve their morale.

Sportsmen's Legacy Foundation

A non-profit organization that provides quality, outdoor mentorships to children who have lost a parent or have a parent who has become physically challenged as a result of public service while serving as a member of the Armed Forces, or firefighting and law enforcement communities.

Sun Valley Adaptive Sports

Offers ski programs that provide adaptive ski lessons and equipment to disabled Veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Team River Runner (TRR)

TRR helps Veterans of the Iraq and Afghan wars recuperating at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) find health, healing and new challenges through whitewater boating on the Potomac River. Also provides whitewater boating opportunities for family members as well as for other wounded Veterans.

Tee It Up for the Troops

Makes the Friday closest to September 11th a NATIONAL DAY OF GOLF saluting all those who have answered the call to duty.

Therapeutic Sports

Through a week-long clinic sponsored by the VA, Veterans, many wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan, have received an early introduction to the therapeutic value of recreational sports. Most of the participants are getting their first taste of sailing, surfing, kayaking, cycling and track and field events since being wounded or injured.

U.S. Olympic Committee Paralympic Military Program

Provides post-rehabilitation support and mentoring to injured American Service Members. Veterans are introduced to adaptive sport techniques and opportunities through clinics and camps and are also connected with ongoing Paralympic sports programs in their hometowns.

United Service Organizations (USO)

Provides morale, welfare and recreation-type services to Service Members and their families.

United States Adaptive Recreation Center

Works with schools, hospitals, rehabilitation centers and park and recreation departments to help children and adults with all types of cognitive or physical disabilities participate in physical activities including skiing and watersports.

United States Association of Blind Athletes

Works to increase the number and quality of competitive, world-class athletic opportunities for Americans who are blind or visually impaired by providing athlete and coach identification and support, program and event management and national and international representation.

Faith-based organization that provides troops and families with practical, hands-on support and resources, including retreats.

Helps Service Members who are severely wounded in combat by providing specific items, services and programs to meet their needs, including recreational programs.
