President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Jane Cosco upon arrival in New York City on Thursday, November 13, 2008.  Cosco is the founder and volunteer director of Operation Goody Bag. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Cosco, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Peter Cea during his visit aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City, on Tuesday, November 11, 2008.  Cea is a volunteer with the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Cea, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Marion Harrison upon arrival in Alexandria, Louisiana, on Monday, October 20, 2008.  Harrison is a volunteer with the Alexandria VA Medical Center. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Harrison, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Cindy Leep upon arrival in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Wednesday, October 15, 2008.  Leep is a volunteer with Uganda Amaranth Project for Partners Worldwide. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Leep, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Eileen Hadbavny upon arrival in Charleston, South Carolina, on Friday, October 10, 2008.  Hadbavny is a volunteer with the Carolina Lowcountry Chapter of the American Red Cross.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Hadbavny, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Teodoro E. Rodriguez upon arrival in Miami, Florida, on Friday, October 10, 2008. Rodriguez is a volunteer with the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States. He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Rodriguez, since March 2002.

Arnold is a volunteer with The Thank You Foundation, the Cincinnati Military Support Group and the Cincinnati Area Chapter of American Red Cross. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Arnold, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Sonya McDonald upon arrival in San Antonio, Texas, on Monday, October 6, 2008.  McDonald is a volunteer with Fisher House and Returning Heroes Home. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like McDonald, since March 2002.

 

Vice President Dick Cheney presented the President's Volunteer Service Award, on behalf of President George W. Bush, to  Teresa Lindsey in Reno, Nevada, on Friday, October 3, 2008.  Lindsey has been the volunteer coordinator for three years with the Black Stallion Literacy Project, a program that introduces first grade students to the joy of reading through interaction with horses and distribution of the Black Stallion children's books. She organizes Reading, Rodeo, and Responsibility assemblies at 25 elementary schools in Washoe County in which volunteers encourage students to improve their literacy skills and horse handlers give children a hands-on experience with horses.  In addition, Lindsey is a volunteer with the Reno Rodeo Foundation's annual Denim Drive, a program in which volunteers collect new and gently used denim clothing for distribution to 1,200 children who have been placed in protective custody and foster care.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Linda Fox upon arrival in Midland, Texas, on Saturday, October 4, 2008.  Fox is a volunteer with the Recording Library of West Texas. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Fox since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Eric Greitens upon arrival in St. Louis, Missouri, on Friday, October 3, 2008.  Greitens, a lieutenant in the United States Navy Reserve and a senior fellow at the Harry S. Truman School of Public Affairs, is the founder of the Center for Citizen Leadership.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Greitens, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Joey Rizzolo Jr., upon arrival at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City on Monday, September 22, 2008.  Rizzolo, 13 of Paramus, New Jersey, is the organizer of the Paramus Freedom Walk and a volunteer with Operation Goody Bag.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Rizzolo, since March 2002.

To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Knies, since March 2002. Knies has been a volunteer for eight years with Mercy Flight Southeast.

 

Vice President Dick Cheney presented the President's Volunteer Service Award, on behalf of President George W. Bush, to Jordan Morrow in Palm Beach, Florida, on Thursday, September 18, 2008.  Morrow has been a volunteer for 10 years with the Palm Beach County 4-H Youth Development Program, a national educational program for youth.

 

First Lady Laura Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award, on behalf of President George W. Bush, to Denis Cranford upon her arrival in Fort Worth, Texas, on Tuesday, September 16, 2008.  Cranford is a volunteer with Camp Fire USA First Texas Council.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Cranford, since March 2002.

Bush, to Kathy Dechand when Mrs. Bush arrived in Topeka, Kansas, on Tuesday, September 16, 2008.  Dechand is a volunteer with Girl Scouts of Northeast Kansas & Northwest Missouri. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors local volunteers when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Dechand, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Dan Rooney upon arrival at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, on Friday, September 12, 2008. Rooney, a major in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, is the founder of The Folds of Honor Foundation. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors local volunteers when he travels throughout the United States. He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Rooney, since March 2002.

Stark is the founder of The Hugs Project.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Stark, since March 2002.

Bull has been a volunteer with Trinity Christian Community and Grove Community Church.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Bull, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Keela Carr upon arrival in Orlando, Florida, on Wednesday, August 20, 2008.  Carr recently completed a cross-country walk to demonstrate support of all Soldiers and Veterans, and is a Volunteer Ambassador with Freedom Team Salute.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Carr, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Caroline Wolf upon arrival at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, on Monday, August 4, 2008.  Wolf is an AmeriCorps member serving at the Literacy Council of Alaska, and also volunteers with Alaska Health Fair Incorporated.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Wolf, since March 2002.

Goodall is a volunteer with the Shepherd's Center of Greenbrier Valley. He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Goodall, since March 2002.

Komen for the Cure - Northeast Ohio Affiliate, the Junior League of Cleveland, and the American Cancer Society. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States. Storey is a volunteer with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States. Goggin is the founder of Bundles of Joy, and a volunteer with Butterfly Dreams Farm Therapeutic Riding Program. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Goggin, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to John Jackson upon arrival in Houston, Texas, on Friday, July 18, 2008.  Jackson is a volunteer with the Prison Entrepreneurship Program.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Jackson, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Mark Hendricks, 20, Jake Wellman, 18, and Alex Braden, 20, upon arrival in Redding, California, on Thursday, July 17, 2008.  California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger also joined the President in presenting the award.  The students are Eagle Scouts and members of the Order of the Arrow, the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors volunteers when he travels throughout the United States.  This award presentation includes the 650th volunteer the President has honored since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Mary Frances Ward prior to his departure from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base on Friday, July 18, 2008.  Ward is a volunteer with Experience Corps and Valley Presbyterian Church.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Ward, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Gary Hall upon arrival at Travis Air Force Base, California, on Thursday, July 17, 2008.  Hall, a master sergeant in the United States Air Force stationed at Travis Air Force Base, is a volunteer with the Suisun City Fire Department. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 650 volunteers, like Hall, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Devy Goradia upon arrival in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Friday, July 4, 2008.  Goradia is a volunteer with the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce, SCORE, the Small Business Development Center and Shelter for Help in Emergency.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 600 volunteers, like Goradia, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Robbie Powell, 12, upon arrival in Little Rock, Arkansas, on Tuesday, July 1, 2008.  Robbie organized the Live 4 Ben fundraising campaign and is a volunteer with the Conway Braves.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 600 volunteers, like Robbie, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Cameron Fox upon arrival in Jackson, Mississippi, on Tuesday, July 1, 2008.  Fox is a volunteer with the Central Mississippi Chapter of the American Red Cross.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 600 volunteers, like Fox, since March 2002.

Peirce is a volunteer with the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County. Marriam, 15, is the co-founder of the Nickelby Project and a volunteer with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States.  He has met with more than 600 volunteers, like Marriam, since March 2002.

Kelchner, 18, is a volunteer with Voices for Kids of Southwest Florida, the Children’s Home Society of Florida, and McGregor Baptist Church. Barnhill, 20, is a sophomore at Furman University and a volunteer with Heller Service Corps. Knight, 25, is a volunteer with Students Take Action and YouthFriends. Johnson served as a volunteer with AmeriCorps St. Louis and is an active volunteer with Make a Difference Day and the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Lapenta is a volunteer with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford. Reid is a volunteer with Army Family Team Building, Army Family Action Plan, the Army Volunteer Corps and Fort Dix Elementary School. Humenycky recently returned to the U.S. after two years of service as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa. President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Rob Goodreau upon arrival at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, on Thursday, March 27, 2008.  Goodreau is a volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol. Cleveland is a tutor, classroom reader, and a volunteer with Operation Blessing. Crowley is a volunteer with the Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition and Read Together Palm Beach County. Pancoast is a volunteer with Operation Stand Down Nashville and other community organizations. The sisters, both students at Harvard-Westlake School, are founders and volunteers with Kid Flicks. He has met with more than 600 volunteers, like the Barta sisters, since March 2002.

President George W. Bush met Richard C. Treadway when he arrived in Naperville, Illinois. Treadway is a retired teacher and an ctive volunteer with the Dupage Children's Museum.

 

President George W. Bush met Helen Suchara and Erin Murray Chekal when he and Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski arrived in Rochester, Michigan. Suchara, age 83, and Chekal, age 33, both served as Peace Corps volunteers in Poland and have continued their commitment to service after returning to Detroit.

 

President George W. Bush will met Roman Gary upon arrival in Birmingham on Monday. Gary is a young architect who volunteers his time with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and several other area organizations.

 

President George W. Bush met Pearl Lam Bergad upon arrival in Minneapolis tomorrow. Bergad, who serves as executive director of Chamber Music Society of Minnesota, has volunteered with a number of organizations to raise awareness of Asian culture in the Minneapolis community and is actively involved in the classical music community in Minneapolis.

 

President George W. Bush met Anna Edwards, a retired Educational Associate with the New York City Board of Education who has dedicated her retirement to volunteer service, upon arrival in New York City.

 

President George W. Bush met Bill Boyd, 71, Charlie Cavender, 69, John Lockhart, 68, LeRoy Sayre, 71, Stanley Shaffer, 47, and Donald Southall, 69, upon arrival in Ripley, West Virginia on July 4th. Each is a veteran, and together they are working as volunteers for a program to help drive veterans to medical appointments.

 

President George W. Bush met Linda Stephenson upon arrival in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Stephenson is a local businesswoman who has dedicated her time over the past 36 years to helping more than 30 local, national, and international nonprofit organizations.

 

On his arrival in Cleveland, President George W. Bush met with Eugene Brudno, a Cleveland senior and World War II veteran who has dedicated more than 25 years as a volunteer to helping families coping with mental illness.

 

On his arrival in Newark, New Jersey on Monday, President George W. Bush met three Northern Highlands Regional High School students who are actively involved in promoting the President's call to volunteer service.

 

On his arrival in Orlando, FL, President George W. Bush met Marie Wieland, an Orlando senior citizen who has been an active volunteer in the Orlando community for more than 40 years.

 

On arrival in Atlanta, President George W. Bush met Darryl Hicks, an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and other organizations serving the Atlanta community.

 

President George W. Bush met Dennis "Denny" Barnett upon arrival in Kansas City, Missouri, tomorrow. Barnett has dedicated his career to helping nonprofits use volunteers to meet critical community needs.

President George W. Bush met Cadet Paul Tanghe upon arrival in Hagerstown, New York, Saturday, June 1. Tanghe is a second year West Point cadet from Edina, Minnesota, who has a long record of service to others. Later, the President will make remarks at the graduation exercises of the United States Military Academy at West Point.

President George W. Bush met Jerry and Adrienne Welenc when he arrived in Chicago, Illinois, Monday. The Welenc's have been leaders in foster care for more than thirty years. In his State of the Union address, President Bush called on all Americans to dedicate at least two years of their lives—the equivalent of 4,000 hours—in service to their communities, our country and the world. President Bush recognized individuals around the country who are answering the call to service, and will recognize the Welencs as an example of the dedication to service he is hoping to instill in all Americans through his USA Freedom Corps initiative. In addition, May is National Foster Care Month, an opportunity thank foster parents for their service to children in need.

 

President George W. Bush met Gabriel "Gabe" Wilson upon arrival in Columbus, Ohio. Wilson is a high school senior who is active in helping other young people avoid drug use and peer pressure. At stops in Wisconsin on Wednesday, President George W. Bush met two volunteers who represent the dedication to service he is hoping to instill in all Americans. In La Crosse, he will meet Dorothy Wetterlin, a nurse and grandmother of seven who has distinguished herself through volunteer work in area schools, in her church, and in several other programs.

 

At stops in Wisconsin on Wednesday, President George W. Bush met two volunteers who represent the dedication to service he is hoping to instill in all Americans. In Milwaukee, the President met Tammy Krohn, an AmeriCorps volunteer who works with children with special needs at the A.E. Burdick Elementary School.

 

President George W. Bush met Miranda Ip, an AmeriCorps member who is serving with Public Allies, a Bay Area not for profit organization that promotes youth leadership by placing young adults in leadership positions with other community serving organizations. Upon his arrival in Mountain View, California, Tuesday, April 30th, the President recognized Ip as an example of the dedication to service he is hoping to instill in all Americans.

 

President George W. Bush met Julian Renteria, a local banker who volunteers by sharing his business experience and knowledge with Los Angeles youth. Upon his arrival in Los Angeles, California, Monday, April 29th, the President recognized Renteria as an example of the dedication to service  he is hoping to instill in all Americans.

 

President George W. Bush met Jean "Dawn" Morris, a mother of five and grandmother of two who has worked and volunteered in the Pierre community for 30 years. Upon his arrival in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Wednesday, President Bush recognized Morris as an example of the lifetime dedication to service he is hoping to instill in all Americans.

 

President George W. Bush met Jennie Sue Murdock, a volunteer who has worked with community service organizations in the Roanoke Valley for more than three decades. Upon his arrival in Roanoke, Virginia tomorrow, the President recognized Murdock as an example of the lifetime dedication to service he is hoping to instill in all Americans.

 

President George W. Bush met Maxine Phipps, a 94 year-old volunteer, upon arrival in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Monday, April 15. Phipps mentors and tutors local children in person and over the Internet through a program called Community Builders. The President will recognize Phipps as an example of the dedication to service he is hoping to instill in all Americans.

 

President George W. Bush met Stan Braxton, a retiree and active volunteer, upon arrival in Philadelphia. He recognized Braxton as an example of the lifetime commitment to service he is hoping to instill in all Americans.

 

President George W. Bush met with Gustavius "Gus" Philander Samuel, Jr., a local high school student who has been active with the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club upon arrival in Greenville, South Carolina tomorrow. President Bush recognized Samuel as an example of the lifetime commitment to service he is hoping to instill in all  Americans.

 

President George W. Bush met Laura Clipper and Nir Eyal, two volunteers who have been active with Hands On Atlanta, on his arrival in Atlanta, Georgia. He recognized Clipper and Eyal as examples of the lifetime commitment to service he is hoping to instill in all  Americans.

 

President George W. Bush met Rosario Piedra, a Girl Scout troop leader and an active volunteer in the El Paso community for over fifteen years, upon arrival in El Paso, Texas. He recognized Piedra as an example of the lifetime commitment to service he is hoping to instill in all Americans.

On his arrival in Chicago, Illinois, President George W. Bush met with Jeanette Vasek, a longtime volunteer in the Chicago Heights community who has responded to his call to service by volunteering with the Chicago Heights Police Department. President Bush recognized Vasek as an example of the lifetime commitment to service he is hoping to instill in all Americans.

Bush met Jane Davis, a registered nurse and Fort Bragg spouse who has recently returned from working at Ground Zero in New York upon arrival in Fayetteville, North Carolina tomorrow. Upon arrival in St. Petersburg, Florida, President George W. Bush met with Roxanne Hunt, a first-year officer with the City of Pinellas Park Police Department and alumnus of the AmeriCorps program.
