President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Matt Cook, 17, upon arrival at the airport in Los Angeles, California, on Tuesday, October 3, 2006. Cook is the founder of the Mile-Long Yellow Ribbon Project. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer, called a USA Freedom Corps Greeter, when he travels throughout the United States. President Bush has met with more than 500 individuals around the country, like Cook, since March 2002.
