Gulf Region Division's South District Volunteer Opportunities
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is inviting Corps employees, those of other federal agencies, and those from the private sector to consider serving our country as a civilian in GRD's South District.
Important work is being conducted to rebuild Iraq's infrastructure and a variety of specialties are required.

| Lake Texoma volunteers honored |

On Nov. 13, 2008, a banquet hosted by Lake Texoma rangers and staff honored volunteers for their outstanding service during the year. Volunteers served across the entire lake, and a total of 6,200 hours was worked during the 2008 recreation season.
The year was particularly hectic due to the flood damage reconstruction needed following the high waters in the summer of 2007. The volunteers were alert and ready to take on any task.

Seven-year-old Victoria Underwood likes to enter contests. Her father said that whenever she comes across a contest -- coloring or poster -- she's determined to enter it. So, when the family picked up a Bobber the Water Safety Dog coloring book, Victoria colored the poster inside.

| Annual hunt held |

Since 2003, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has conducted a youth deer hunt at Keystone and Heyburn lakes which is made possible through a collaborative effort with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. Hunters are chosen randomly through ODWC and notified of their hunt's location. The hunt has six youth participants who are escorted to their hunting blinds by Corps personnel. When the call went out from Dora Karnes, Tulsa District employee deployed to Afghanistan, that she would appreciate some help getting warm winter outerwear for children in Afghanistan, the answer came quickly and generously.
