Expeditionary Workforce

I'm in Kabul, Afghanistan. I've been here since November 2006 and am supposed to leave in November 2007. I work in Contracting. The work is fast paced and very busy. We work 12-hour days 6 days a week with half days on Fridays. We live in a small compound and have our own rooms made out of conexes.

Shooting an M249

The military gave us a chance to go to their shooting range because a lot of the civilians were interested in shooting the weapons. Those of us that signed up (about 20) had to go through a safety course and familiarize ourselves with the weapons. There are a lot of us that don't get off the compound very often and it was great to get to go — the most exciting thing I’ve done since being here. Where else would you get to shoot these kinds of weapons?

This picture is from a refugee camp I’ve been to twice to take donations of clothing and food.  We can’t go back there anymore because the last time they made a trip there, a vehicle in the convoy got hit with an IED.

Note:  See more camp pictures below.
