Finding employment opportunities is one of the biggest challenges facing any relocating family. Using the resources in the employment category will assist with volunteer, temporary, and permanent positions with the government or in the private sector.

Employment opportunities in the 351 communities in Massachusetts are found in a wide range of manufacturing and commercial enterprises in such diverse fields as computer science, technological research, textile, and tourist industries. The Massachusetts Redevelopment Association was formed to develop Fort Devens after it closed. There are now 55 small/large business opportunities now on Devens, two of the businesses being Gillette and Bureau of Prison. Unemployment in the Devens area is low. In the areas of manufacturing, electronics and plastics technology, laborers and truck drivers, there are more jobs than qualified people to fill them. There is a high demand for people with machine maintenance and technical skills.

Clerical positions, manual labor, engineering, security positions, food service and cashiers, medical profession, computer field, and truck drivers.

FAIR PROSPECTS:

Management and supervisory positions, retail associates, electronics technicians, plastic molding, molding operators, and assembly workers.

POOR PROSPECTS:

Counselors, police, social workers, and state, county or township funded positions.
