A New One-Time Recovery Payment of $250 for Veterans in 2009

Provides a one-time payment of $250 to individuals who receive Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Railroad Retirement and Veterans' Compensation and Pension benefits. FMS expects to begin issuing payments in May 2009. No action is required on your part to receive this payment. The payment will be issued separately and will not be included in your regular benefit payment.

Application for Annual Clothing Allowance

Veterans who use a prosthetic or orthopedic appliance or use medication for skin conditions that cause irreparable damage to clothing may be eligible for an annual clothing allowance.

Benefits for Women Vietnam Veterans' Children with Birth Defects

Filippino Veteran Equity Compensation

Gives Filipino Veterans who aided American troops during World War II a one-time payment of $9,000 for non-U.S. citizens and $15,000 for Filipino Veterans with U.S. citizenship. Claims need to be received no later than February 16, 2010.

Hubbard Act

President George W. Bush, joined by members of the Hubbard family, signed H.R. 6580, The Hubbard Act. The law will provide sole survivors a number of benefits already offered to those honorably separating from military service. In addition, sole survivors will not be required to repay any portion of their enlistment bonus; may participate in the Montgomery GI Bill educational program; and may receive separation pay and transitional health care coverage. Other Health Insurance (OHI)

Provides information on OHI, which is health care coverage offered to a TRICARE beneficiary and how it works with TRICARE. OHI may be available through an employer, an association, a private insurer, school health care coverage for students or an entitlement program such as Medicare.

Special Compensation for Women Who Suffered Loss of Breast Tissue

Broadens the coverage of special monthly compensation for women Veterans who suffered loss of breast tissue related to their military service. The benefit covers those losing 25 percent or more tissue from a single breast or from both breasts in combination. It includes loss by mastectomy or partial mastectomy, or following radiation treatment. Contact VA at 1-800-827-1000 to find out if you are eligible.
