Some charitable assistance for transportation is also available for Veterans from earlier military service.

America Supporting Americans

Coordinates civic and community groups in towns, cities or counties to adopt individual military units through the Adopt-a-Unit Program and Foster-a-Unit Program.

Care Packages for Injured Soldiers

Provides comfort and relief items for military members who become sick, injured, or wounded during service in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan. Donated items are distributed to patients at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC) in Germany, the largest American military hospital outside the U.S.; to field hospitals in Afghanistan and Iraq; and to VA facilities throughout the United States.

Care Packages to Our Troops

Sends care packages and other needed goods to troops and offers memorial, meals, scholarship, card writing and youth leadership programs.

Comfort for America's Uniformed Services (CAUSE)

Organizes recreational and entertainment programs for members of the U.S. Armed Services recuperating from injuries suffered in Iraq, Afghanistan and other military theaters.

Defenders of Freedom

Helps troops currently deployed around the world though "support boxes" and provides support to the families of wounded soldiers.

Fallen Heroes Memorial

Online memorial to those who lost their lives in OIF/OEF, including photos and visitor-submitted messages.

Families United for Our Troops & Their Mission

A not-for-profit organization comprised of a grassroots coalition of Gold Star and Blue Star families that support Service Members and Veterans.

Free Call Days - Operation Uplink

Phone cards for Service Members and hospitalized Veterans who are separated from those they care about. Request a card. The Free Call Schedule lists dates when the free call service is available.

Freedom Alliance

Outreach and support to Service Members injured in combat and recuperating at military hospitals throughout the United States and currently serving on the frontlines.

Helping Our Heroes Foundation

Support to injured Service Members, providing patient advocates, educational opportunities for the soldier, coordination of specialty counseling and assistance with emergency funding needs.

Hero to Hero

Troop morale support program that coordinates emergency first responder agency members sending their personal shirts (hats and more), bearing department logos to desert-deployed U.S. troops.

Iraq Afghanistan Deployment Impact Fund (IADIF)

A special initiative of the California Community Foundation that provides funds to nonprofit organizations that offer direct services and other forms of assistance to American military personnel and/or their families who have been impacted by deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan. IADIF grants are administered independently and grant proposals are by invitation only.

Advocates for the improved treatment and increased benefits of Veterans from OEF/OIF.

Joining Forces America

Encourages family members, friends and neighbors to support military families by offering the Share Your Ideas website where everyone can discuss their personal thoughts on the best ways to support Service Members as they return to their homes and communities.

McCormick Foundation - Welcome Back Veterans

An initiative of Major League Baseball and the McCormick Foundation, this program raises public awareness about issues facing today's Veterans and raises funds to help support programs and services for them.

Military Exchange Gift Certificates

Send a gift certificate to a loved one, family member or friend associated with the military. Gifts from the Homefront are redeemable at the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), the Marine Corps Exchange (MCX), the Navy Exchange (NEX) and the Coast Guard Exchange.

Musical Instruments to Deployed Service Men & Women

Sends musical instruments, including guitars, mandolins, banjos, violins, harmonicas, and accessories to deployed service men and women throughout the world. Also provides musical lesson plans on CDs for those who don't know how to play.

Operation AC - Adopt a Service Member

Sponsor a care package with requested items for a specific Service Member.

Operation AC - Sponsor Air Conditioning

Make a donation for an air conditioning unit for targeted Service Members who are in remote areas.

Operation Baby Blanket

Companionship and support for Service Members' pregnant wives.

Operation Carry the Flame

An American Motorcycle Association-sanctioned coast-to-coast motorcycle ride to support Veterans' issues, to assist Veterans' families and to raise awareness about POW/MIAs from all wars.

Operation First Response

Supports our nation's wounded heroes and their families by assisting with them with their personal and financial needs. Financial aid varies as each case is based on individual needs.

Operation Gratitude

Provides care packages to troops. Packages contain food, toiletries, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation.

Operation Hero Miles

Provides free plane tickets to family members of wounded Service Members to visit their loved ones recovering at military hospitals across the country.

Operation Injured Soldiers

Raises funds for injured soldiers by engaging individuals and corporations in a variety of events and programs.

Operation Second Chance

Supports Service Members while at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and when they transition back to duty or back to civilian life through programs and services including modification of housing for Veterans with disabilities and assistance to the families of wounded Service Members.

Operation Support Our Troops (OSOT)

Helps improve the morale and welfare of members of the U.S. Armed Forces deployed in harm's way by sending care packages, letters and difficult to attain items. Also provides support to wounded soldiers from Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany on their way to recovery at U.S. military installations. Includes information on Wheels for Warriors, which are modified vans for injured soldiers.

Operation Uplink - Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)

Provides a free phone card for hospitalized Veterans or deployed military personnel.

Operation from the Heart

A grassroots movement that sends support through letters and care packages from hearts and homes across the U.S. to our troops serving in harm's way overseas.

Operation: Quiet Comfort (OQC)

A nonprofit organization that creates care packages for U.S. military men and women receiving care at medical facilities abroad, transition kits and staff gifts for medical personnel. OQC is positioned at U.S. Combat Support Hospitals, Troop Medical Clinics and with medic teams on the front lines.

Our Fallen Hero

Provides financial support to families who have lost relatives in service to their country, grief camps for children and spouses and support for Fisher House and other rehabilitation programs.

Project Compassion

Provides an original oil painting of a fallen loved one as a way to say "Thank you" to those Service Members who have given the ultimate sacrifice for America.

Quilts of Valor

Creates quilts for combat wounded and injured Service Members from the War on Terror, including both physical and psychological wounds.
