Major General Jeffrey J. Dorko is the Deputy Commanding General for Military and International Operations for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He is responsible for policy, programming, and technical support in the execution of over $20 billion of design, construction, and environmental programs for the Army, the Air Force, other Department of Defense and Federal agencies and foreign countries. His most recent assignment was as Commander, U.S. Army Engineer Division, Gulf Region, headquartered in Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from October 2007 to October 2008.
Major General Dorko graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1978. He later received Masters Degrees in Construction Management from George Washington University and in National Security Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Following completion of the Engineer Officer Basic Course, MG Dorko served from 1978 to 1981 in the 299th Engineer Battalion at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, as a Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer and Assistant Battalion Operations Officer.
After the Engineer Officer Advanced Course, he was assigned to the 7th Engineer Brigade, VII Corps, in Ludwigsburg, Germany, where he served on the Brigade staff and subsequently commanded the 503d Engineer Company. Following that assignment, MG Dorko returned to the United States and served from 1985 to 1990, first as an Operations Officer in the Military Programs Directorate, Headquarters, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and then as a staff officer in the Executive Actions Division, Office of the Chief of Staff of the Army, Pentagon.
Upon his graduation from the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, he returned to Germany and served in the 3d Infantry Division as Brigade Engineer, 1st Brigade, and then as Battalion S3, 10th Engineer Battalion, all in Schweinfurt. MG Dorko then returned to the Pentagon where he served from 1993 to 1995 as the Military Assistant for Base Realignments and Closures, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Logistics, and Environment.
In 1995, he returned to Schweinfurt to command the 10th Engineer Battalion. The Battalion then re-flagged as the 9th Engineer Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, and deployed in support of Operations Joint Endeavor and Joint Guard in Bosnia-Herzegovina. After his graduation from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1998, he served as Operations and Plans Officer, Dissemination Division, National Imagery and Mapping Agency in Reston, Virginia.
From July 2000 to August 2002, MG Dorko commanded the Engineer Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. Following his service with the First Team, he served as the Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Finally, prior to his service in Baghdad, he commanded the Southwestern Division, headquartered in Dallas, Texas from June 2004 to August 2007.
MG Dorko’s military education includes the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
