GOVERNOR PROMOTES STEM SKILLS, ROBOTICS DURING VISIT TO KAUA`I

May 30 - "I don't support robotics so you can all grow up to build robots," Governor Lingle told students on the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School robotics team.  "I support robotics so you can learn how to solve problems."

The Governor is promoting robotics as part of the Hawai‘i Innovation Initiative to engage Hawai‘i students in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.

In March 2008, through a $1 million four-year grant the Governor secured from NASA, Hawai‘i will host for the first time a regional robotics competition, enabling teams from across the state, the mainland and abroad to participate.
