WEBINARS

CDC's National Environmental Public Health Tracking Program hosts webinars (web seminars) on the fourth Monday of every month at 1:00 p.m. EST. This is an opportunity for EPHT grantees, partners, and other CDC programs to present their work. A variety of topics have been presented, including Air Quality Measures for Tracking: Lessons Learned, Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Implications for Public Health Surveillance, and Environmental Public Health Tracking of Pesticides Information. Participants can log on the web to view real time presentations and call in for the audio portion.

If you would like to receive announcements about these monthly web seminars, please send your request to EPHT@cdc.gov.

Face-to-Face: A State-Local Dialogue on Environmental Public Health Tracking

  • Speakers:
Abraham Kulungara, BDS, MPH, Analyst, Environmental Health; Association of State and Territorial Health Officials
Grace Ibanga, MPH, Program Assistant, Environmental Health; National Association of County & City Health Officials
Nausheen Saeed, Program Associate, Environmental Health; National Association of County & City Health Officials

Description: The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) sponsored facilitated discussions in many Tracking-funded states to enhance collaboration between state and local health departments and ensure inclusion of local public health perspectives about the development of the National Environmental Public Health Tracking Network. These discussions opened the lines of communication among environmental health directors, identified needs and priorities for the EPHT program, and developed strategies to enhance effective communication and collaboration among state health agencies and local health departments on EPHT projects.

Representatives from ASTHO and NACCHO will share the issues and ideas arising from these discussions. You will gain insight as to how both the local and state health departments are working together to strengthen environmental public health tracking.

  • The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in collaboration with CDC’s Environmental Public Health Tracking Program, has released a report on the occurrence of eleven priority water-quality constituents of possible health concern in domestic wells located in 16 states across the U.S. For the project, measures of water-quality, water use, and other geospatial data (such as for land use and hydrogeology) are compiled, mapped and tabulated for each of the 16 states that are participating in the Tracking Program.

Gary Rowe Ph.D., Regional Coordinator for NAWQA (National Water-Quality Assessment Program) and co-author, will provide an overview of the recently released report “Summary of Selected U.S. Geological Survey Data on Domestic Well Water Quality for the Centers for Disease Control’s National Environmental Public Health Tracking Program," during the March 24, 2008 webinar. The study is available online at: http://pubs.usgs.gov/sir/2007/5213/. Also available online are individual State summaries that include summary tables, graphs, and maps of the water-quality data done for each state.
