GPO Hosted Conference to Share Future Bidding Opportunities for Census 2010 (October 25, 2005)

The United States Government Printing Office (GPO) hosted a conference on the printing and mail distribution of Census 2010 questionnaire and other Census 2010 products. The conference was held at the GPO headquarters, located in Washington, D.C., on October 25, 2005.

The goal of this conference was to provide the printing and mailing community an overview of Census 2010 products, to describe their separate and distinct requirements and to provide information for participating in the procurement process.

Presentations given provided information regarding the forms, marketing materials and other production printing that will be required for Census 2010, including estimated volumes. Specific topics included: imaging and content management requirements; distribution, shipping and mailing requirements; security/privacy requirements; and quality control plans. The conference also covered how vendors can participate in the procurement process, including how to instantly sign up to do business with the GPO through GPO Contractor Connection. GPO is also soliciting feedback on Census 2010 contracts from the community. Please submit all questions or comments to Print2010@gpo.gov

Note: For Census 2000 more than 400 million census questionnaires were printed. About 14,000 tons of paper was used in printing the census forms. Other large runs to support the Census included letters, envelopes, postcards, and questionnaires in foreign languages. In addition to the public use forms, the GPO acquired print services to support a Census field staff of 500,000. These services included, payroll time sheets, training manuals, job aids, appointment cards and other assorted printed materials. Other major print runs included advertising material such as posters, billboards, pens, pencils, school materials, and similar promotional items.
