    AIDSinfo, a web site offering comprehensive information on HIV/AIDS treatments and clinical trials, is available at http://aidsinfo.nih.gov. Catering to the needs of health care providers, researchers, people living with HIV/AIDS and the general public, the site provides a single, searchable resource of HIV/AIDS treatment guidelines and information about all federally funded and privately sponsored HIV/AIDS clinical trials.   • "Alcohol: A Women's Health Issue"

    Alcohol: A Women's Health Issue is a new award-winning, 12-minute video from the NIAAA and NIH's Office of Research on Women's Health. The video addresses the complex issue of alcohol-related problems and provides helpful resources for women. The video captured a Bronze World Medal at the 2002 New York Festivals.

  • "Alcohol Problems in Intimate Relationships: Identification and Intervention"

    Institute: National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)

    This guide incorporates a wealth of information regarding alcohol screening and brief interventions in an easy-to-read format that includes useful graphics and reproducible screening tools. NIAAA has developed this publication in collaboration with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) for professionals working on the front lines of alcohol abuse and its consequences.   • "Helping Patients with Alcohol Problems: A Health Practitioner's Guide"

    NIAAA has updated and redesigned one of its most requested publications for health practitioners. Helping Patients with Alcohol Problems: A Health Practitioner's Guide incorporates an eye-catching, easy-to-scan graphic format with updated information about effective, brief interventions that primary care physicians and other health practitioners can use to help their patients. More

  • Materials on Effects of Drinking to Be Distributed at Senior "Beach Week"

    Institute: National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)

    NIAAA will assist the "Play it Safe" Committee of Ocean City, MD in developing alcohol information materials to be distributed in conjunction with their annual high school senior "beach week" activities. NIAAA will provide research-based messages on the adolescent brain and the effect of drinking on bodily systems, while providing other types of technical assistance as needed. The "Play it Safe" Committee will assist NIAAA in getting feedback from the participants regarding these messages. More

  • "Alcohol: What You Don't Know Can Harm You"

    This eight-page booklet explains the consequences of drinking and includes information about drinking and driving, drug interactions, and health and social problems stemming from alcohol misuse.

  • "Consumer Financial Issues in Complementary and Alternative Medicine"

    Consumers of health care, including complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), often have questions about the financial aspects of obtaining treatment. NCCAM has created a new fact sheet for consumers to address a number of frequently asked questions about consumer financial issues in CAM and includes resources for further information.

  • "Questions and Answers About Alopecia Areata"

    This publication is an up-to-date guide describing the causes of and treatments for alopecia areata, an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss.

  • Research Plan on Autoimmune Diseases

    NIAID has released a comprehensive research plan to fight autoimmune diseases, a collection of disorders including multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis that affect an estimated 14 to 22 million Americans. The plan will foster research to identify genetic, environmental and infectious causes of autoimmune diseases and to develop new treatments and prevention strategies. More

Breast Cancer

    • "Do It for Yourself, Do it for Your Family" Mammography Brochures for Asian Women

      NCI has created a new brochure for Asian women about the importance of mammograms. The brochure, Do it for Yourself, Do it for Your Family, was developed because breast cancer is on the rise for women of Asian and Pacific Islander descent living in the United States. Yet nearly half of all Asian and Pacific Islander women aged 40 and older have not had a mammogram in the past two years.

New Web Sites

Revised NIGMS Web Site—Easy Access to Programs, Publications, News

The NIGMS has launched its revamped web site (www.nigms.nih.gov), which now offers easier access to the Institute's news, publications, and funding opportunities. Visitors can find out about programs in basic biomedical research and training and view online versions of award-winning science education publications about genetics, cell biology, and other topics. These publications include The Structures of Life, The Chemistry of Health, Genetic Basics, Genes & Populations, and Findings. Free printed copies can also be ordered online at www.nigms.nih.gov/news/publications.html. More

New Grantee Publications Database

Format: Web
Institute: National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM)

An online database that provides citations of publications produced as a result of NCCAM grants is now available. The database of grantee publications is searchable and can be sorted in a variety of ways. Many of the citations include a link to the article's PubMed record, which may include an abstract and link to the full-text article.
