Each April since 1981, OVC has helped lead communities throughout the country in their observances of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW). Rallies, candlelight vigils, and a host of commemorative activities are held each year to promote victims' rights and to honor crime victims and those who advocate on their behalf.

Now Accepting Nominations for the 2009 National Crime Victims' Service Awards

OVC is now accepting nominations for the 2009 National Crime Victims’ Service Awards. You are invited to print and mail in your application by October 3, 2008, or to complete and submit your application electronically using the online nomination form by October 10, 2008.

OVC annually recognizes individuals and organizations that demonstrate outstanding service in supporting victims and victim services. The award recipients, who are selected from public nominations in eight categories, are extraordinary individuals and programs that provide services to victims of crime. The honorees are announced just before National Crime Victims’ Rights Week commences.

2009 Theme and Colors

OVC is pleased to announce the National Crime Victims’ Rights Week theme for 2009: 25 Years of Rebuilding Lives: Celebrating the Victims of Crime Act.

The colors selected to help celebrate this milestone are cranberry red (Pantone 208) and blue (Pantone 534).

Scheduled Events

Leading up to the national commemoration, OVC will hold two prelude events in the Nation's Capital. Both events are free and open to the public, however, registration is required to attend the National Crime Victims’ Service Awards Ceremony. Details regarding registration are forthcoming.
