Economic Research

The Social Sciences Branch conducts a wide range of research centered on the commercial and recreational fishing fleets and associated markets and evaluates the regional impact of economic contribution/impact of the seafood industry to the overall economy in the Northeast. The Branch also conducts research on the economic dimensions of the management of protected resources. These studies assist NOAA Fisheries in assessing the costs and benefits associated with various management decisions, in this way directly supporting NOAA Fisheries stewardship goal of maximizing benefits to the Nation while ensuring the long-term sustainability of all living marine resources.
