Energy Transition Initiative

Through the Energy Transition Initiative (ETI), the U.S. Department of Energy and its partners work with government entities and other stakeholders to establish a long-term energy vision and successfully implement energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions. ETI provides a proven framework and technical resources and tools to help islands, states, and cities transition to a clean energy economy and achieve their clean energy goals.

Islands Playbook

This action-oriented guide provides a readily available framework that any community can use to help successfully initiate, plan, and complete a transition to a clean energy system. Read lessons learned featured in the Playbook from island communities that have reached their goals by implementing renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.

Island Energy Snapshots

Get energy information about islands in the Caribbean, the Pacific, and the surrounding area, such as current electricity sector data, policies, and opportunities to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels through energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Island Energy Tools and Trainings

Learn more about tools and tailored trainings that can help islands identify pathways and make decisions about their clean energy goals and projects.

ETI Energy Scenario Tool

The ETI Energy Scenario Tool helps communities analyze different pathways to meet a given energy transition goal by modeling the levelized cost of electricity for custom, user-defined scenarios of supply and demand. Download the tool and user guide. For step-by-step instructions on how to use the tool, watch the video.

State and Local Energy Data Tool

State and local governments can use this tool to get basic energy market information needed to plan and implement clean energy projects. Watch the video.
