Tips:

Current Federal Employees

Before leaving your present duty station ask if you are entitled to be carried in Leave Without Pay (LWOP) Status for up to one year. The following should be hand carried to facilitate the application process: a copy of your application and/or resume, your most current SF-50, Notification of Personnel Action, and your most recent performance appraisal. These forms are necessary if you will be applying for AF positions. Also hand carry copies of college transcripts, in case they are required, and a copy of your orders to establish your eligibility for Military Spouse Preference. Upon arriving in Schweinfurt you should stop by the Civilian Personnel Advisory Center in Bldg 444, 3rd floor and they will assist you with job placement information.

Former Federal Employees

Hand carry copies of all SF-50s you received during the previous twelve months of employment. They will be useful in determining your "personal competitive status" and may allow for pay adjustment should you accept a lower graded position.

Veterans

Hand carry legible copies of your DD Form 214. If you are a disabled veteran, hand carry a statement or document from the branch of service or the Veterans Administration certifying the existence and degree of the disability. This statement, in order to be used for employment purposes, must be dated within the twelve months prior to employment.

Spouse Preference

Family members of active duty military personnel and DOD Civilians may be eligible for Military Spouse Preference or Family Member Preference, when applying for Federal positions. This preference helps family members reenter the employment market after a PCS move and can only be used once during this duty assignment. The conditions for eligibility vary slightly from agency to agency. Military spouses and family members do not qualify for MSP & family member preference until they arrive at the duty station of the sponsor. However, the self-nomination process for actual vacancies or for open continuous announcements can be started up to 30 days before they arrive in-country. It is recommended applicants download the Resume Job Kit from the CHRMA website prior to submission of their resume. Any deviation from the procedures outlined in the job kit may cause the resume to be rejected. The Employment Readiness Program representatives can be contacted at the links listed.

DoD Contractors

Independent contractors also provide employment opportunities.  While most contractors in the community are looking for high-tech telecommunications and computer specialists, opportunities exist for a wide variety of candidates (e.g., ACS has contracted positions that spouses may apply for when open). Contract employment is available with major corporations through direct hire for extended periods.  Each contractor is responsible for advertising and hiring of employees. There is not a central administrative contracting office for all of these positions. Please contact ACS Employment Readiness Manager for more information. However, for U.S. Army direct contacts see the link below.
