AFAP stands for Army Family Action Plan. AFAP is an effective way for the Army community (Soldiers, spouses, Family members, single soldiers, retirees and DOD civilians) to voice their concerns to Army Leadership for change and resolution. Issues submitted by the community tell leadership what the problem is, why it's a problem and gives a possible solution. Whether it’s to improve programs and services, change policies and regulations, amend the law, or to just pursue better and creative ways of doing things… AFAP is a means to achieve them.

SPEAK UP, SPEAK OUT AND MAKE CHANGE!

Issue Example

ISSUE: Mandated Veterans Administrative Benefits Training Army Wide

SCOPE: Soldiers are not being educated on their Veterans Administration entitlements throughout their time in service. Currently, Soldiers are not receiving consistent standardized briefings prior to exiting the military. Additional mandatory standardized briefings will prepare Soldiers who are faced with benefit related issues that are not visible at the time of their separation. Type and quality of briefings vary upon location. As a direct result, Soldiers and retirees are not receiving their full benefits.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Mandate an annual training requirement for all Soldiers who receive a benefits brief by a VA Representative
Establish standardized briefings for all Soldiers

This issue was prioritized and reported out at the Army Europe Army Family Action Plan Conference and was sent to the Department of the Army Conference.
