History of SIP & CSI

From SIP to CSI:
The History of CSI at Amelia Earhart Intermediate School

Amelia Earhart Intermediate School was accredited during the 2006 -2007 school year by the North Central Association (NCA).  Accreditation focuses a school on improving learning for all students. The School Improvement Team (SIT), committee members, and partners within the Amelia Earhart Intermediate School (AEIS) educational community joined together to develop our school’s profile for the new accreditation period.  Beginning with a review and completion of each NCA CASI recommended “next step”, the team at AEIS focused its’ efforts on continuing the strengths exhibited through the 2003 – 2007 accreditation cycle while looking ahead to meet the challenges for future generations.  Data from surveys completed by teachers, parents, and students revealed targeted opportunities for improvement in the areas of academic achievement, curriculum development, school environment, and leadership strategies.  This data has already provided AEIS key evidence in how we meet the academic needs of a diverse student population, the Department of Defense U.S. Forces Pacific Command’s mission goals, and the growing world-wide industry demands of the 21st century.

Since our last accreditation, The North Central Association Commission of Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) has reorganized with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI) and the National Study of School Evaluation (NSSE).  The newly unified organization is called AdvanceED.  From now on, they will be responsible for the accreditation of all DoDDS schools.  Their Web site is: http://www.advanc-ed.org/.

The AEIS Vision Statement is the heart of our school improvement process.  This statement, along with the guiding principals that detail successful evidence of our mission’s success was established after input from each staff member, and responding to the needs of the AEIS community. Every DoDEA School is tasked to look at the strengths and weaknesses of the students in their school. They then choose a focus or goal. Data supporting this choice must be documented from three separate sources (triangulated) to insure that the goal truly addresses student needs. An action plan is then formulated to provide interventions and strategies that will directly impact student learning.

In September 2009, the name School Improvement Plan (SIP) was changed to Continuous School Improvement (CSI). A review of the CSI action plans and the school profile is reviewed and updated annually. A copy of the school profile can be viewed here.
