Cummings ES Enrichment Activities

Cummings News Broadcast Channel
CNBC airs live in all Cummings classrooms at the final bell each morning. 6th grade students are responsible for every aspect of the show, from content to tech positions to announcer responsibilities. Several fifth graders cycle through our book feature and younger students are invited into the studio to lead the pledge.
After School Study Club
Study Club is open to students at all grade levels. Study Club meets in the library after school on Tuesday and Thursdays. Military volunteers serve as mentors to our students as they complete their homework or practice skills.
Student Council
Student Council members are either elected from each grade 3-6 classroom or run for office in the fall. Student Council meets weekly at 2:30. They sponsor spirit days, volunteer for noteworthy causes, and are active in creating a positive school climate. Sponsor:
Cross Country Skiing
Once the snow sticks to our playground and golf course, students in grades 2-6 may ski at recess and after school. At recess, we stick to the playground, but students who ski after school may cross to the 18 hole golf course for either a perimeter circuit or fun on the hills.
Math Olympiads
Students in grades 4-6 have an opportunity to compete in a challenging monthly math contest with other students both nationally and internationally.
Soroban
Soroban Club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:00. Students practice their abacus skills for the annual competition in May/June. Visit the Soroban page for tips on using the Soroban.
Safety Patrol
Safety Patrol is open to students in 4th-6th grade. Safety Patrol serves as crossing guards at two locations on our base perimeter road, Falcon Drive. Students are trained to police the crossing areas 15 minutes before and after school.
