Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury Program Evaluation

In 2010, DCoE was tasked by the Office of the Secretary of Defense’s Force Health Protection and Readiness office to conduct evaluations for several Defense Department programs in an effort to assess effectiveness and quantify improved care provided to service members and their families. The evaluators concluded that, while most programs were tracking varying effectiveness measures, greater assistance was necessary to establish sufficient measures to demonstrate both statistically and clinically significant impacts. In an effort to strengthen structured resources and tools available to programs, DCoE developed the presentation entitled, “Are Your Support Programs for Service Members Effective?” which was delivered during a one-day workshop at the MHS Conference Jan. 30, 2012. Additional support materials which are listed below were also developed and provided to session participants.

These resources can be used to inform health policy formulation, planning, dissemination, implementation and further evaluation with an end result of providing cost effective psychological health and TBI services to service members, veterans and their families. Additional tools such as a program evaluation guide, online training and webinars will be available between the spring and summer this year. Information will be posted on the DCoE website.
