Regional IOOS Component

The Integrated Ocean Observing System Development Plan calls for an integrated system of observations that support national and regional priorities. The eleven Regional Associations (RAs) provide the primary framework for orchestrating the required collaboration within each region and are responsible for the design and coordinated operation of regional coastal ocean observing systems. Regional priorities are to be determined by a comprehensive effort to engage stakeholders at the local and regional level. The NOAA Coastal Services Center’s objective is to establish the RAs as functioning organizations with the capacity to coordinate regional IOOS efforts towards stakeholder needs – an important component of the Center’s long-term desired outcomes for IOOS.
