ADF Online Privacy Statement

This statement explains how the African Development Foundation (ADF) will handle information gathered during your visit to our Web site. The information we receive depends upon what you do when visiting our site.

If you visit our site to read or download information, such as country information or information about one of our projects, we collect and store only the following information:

1. The name of the domain from which you accessed the Internet (for example, aol.com, if you are connecting from an America Online account, or iowa.edu if you are connecting from the University of Iowa's domain);

2. The date and time you accessed our site;

3. The Internet address of the Web site from which you linked directly to our site; and

4. Details on which information sources you accessed on our Web site.

We use the information that we collect from Web site visitors solely to measure the number of visitors to the different sections of our site, find out what information is most viewed, and to help us make our Web site more useful to visitors. ADF does not use “cookies” on its Web site. Cookies are bits of information that are set on your computer so that the issuing server or third-party servers may track your online traffic.

We will not obtain personally identifying information about you when you visit our site, unless you choose to provide such information to us via an e-mail contact initiated by you.

If you identify yourself by sending us a comment using our contact page or an e-mail message, we may use the personally identifying information contained in your e-mail message to respond to your comment or suggestion, to measure the total number of people sending us comments, and to measure the types of comments and queries we receive. In certain instances, your comment or suggestion may be forwarded to other United States government agencies or departments (for example, the State Department or a specific United States embassy in Africa) if those agencies or departments are in the best position to respond to your message with the information you require.

If you provide ADF your e-mail contact information for the purpose of receiving ADF online publications and news updates, we will use your e-mail information, and any other personally identifying information that accompanies it, solely for the purpose of transmitting ADF online publications to you. Within the ADF itself, only those individuals with official responsibility for maintaining ADF’s e-mail distribution list will have access to your e-mail address and any other personally identifying information that you submit.

You will also have the option to unsubscribe from e-mail contact at any time, and all ADF e-mail transmissions will provide you with a readily accessible opportunity to unsubscribe. If you choose to unsubscribe, ADF will immediately remove your e-mail address and any accompanying personally identifying information from its e-mail distribution lists and immediately cease transmitting e-mail messages to you.

ADF will not sell or distribute your e-mail address, or any personally identifying information, to persons or organizations outside ADF, including other agencies of the United States federal government, unless required to do so by law. Your e-mail address and accompanying personally identifying information that you provide the Foundation may be subject to public disclosure under the public access terms of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
