January 2009. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has made available a new Assertive Community Treatment Knowledge Informing Transformation (ACT KIT) packet. As described by SAMHSA, "the ACT KIT offers information and guidance on providing comprehensive mental health treatment and support services to help individuals with serious mental illness stay out of the hospital and live successfully in the community. The information provided in the ACT KIT can help mental health providers develop community-based services that are better suited to the individual needs of clients." Toward Understanding Homelessness: The 2007 National Symposium on Homelessness Research Papers
In 2007, the United States Department of Health and Human Services, United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the United States Interagency Council on Interagency Council on Homelessness convened the 2007 National Symposium on Homelessness Research, the first federal research initiative on homelessness in over a decade. The Symposium sponsored the development of twelve research papers in an effort to capture the current state of the research related to homelessness. The Symposium event, which was held over two days in March of 2007, brought together over 200 researchers, policy makers, government officials, service providers, and consumers from across the country to discuss the research papers and directions for future research related to homelessness.
Evaluation of the Collaborative Initiative to Help End Chronic Homelessness, an innovative demonstration project coordinated by the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness and jointly funded by the US Departments of Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, and Veterans Affairs.
