Electricity Market Module of the National Energy Modeling System Model Documentation Report, The
The National Energy Modeling System (NEMS) was developed to provide mid-term (20 to 25 years) forecasts and analyses of energy-related activities. The NEMS Electricity Market Module (EMM) provides a major link in the
NEMS framework (Figure I.1). In each model year, the EMM receives electricity demand from the NEMS demand modules, fuel prices from the NEMS fuel supply modules, expectations from the NEMS system module, and
macroeconomic parameters from the NEMS macroeconomic module and then estimates the actions taken by electric utilities and nonutilities to meet demand in the most economical manner. The EMM then outputs electricity
prices to the demand modules, fuel consumption to the fuel supply modules, emissions to the system module, and capital requirements to the macroeconomic module. The model is iterated until a solution is reached for that model year.

Natural Gas Transmission and Distribution Model 1999, Model Documentation
The archived version of the NGTDM that was used to produce the natural gas forecasts used in support of the Annual Energy Outlook 1999, DOE/EIA-0383(99) is documented in this report. The version of the NGTDM used for the AEO98 consisted of four modules: the Annual Flow Module, the Capacity Expansion Module, the Pipeline Tariff Module, and the Distributor Tariff Module. For the AEO99, the Annual Flow Module and the Capacity Expansion Module were replaced with the Interstate Transmission Module, which combined the functions of the previous two modules into a single structure, while employing a different methodology. The purpose of the report is to provide a reference document for model analysts, users, and the public that defines the objectives of the model, describes its basic design, provides detail on the methodology employed, and describes the model inputs, outputs, and key assumptions. It is intended to fulfill the legal obligation of the EIA to provide adequate documentation in support of its models (Public Law 94-385, Section 57.b.2).

Macroeconomic Activity Module (Mam) 1998 (Kernel Regression), Model Documentation
The Macroeconomic Activity Module (MAM) serves two functions within the National Energy Modeling System (NEMS). First, it provides consistent sets of baselines macroeconomic variables (GDP and components, aggregate prices, interest rates, industrial output, housing starts, commercial floorspace, new
car sales, etc.) which are used by the supply, demand and conversion modules in reaching an energy market equilibrium. Second, it is designed to provide a feedback mechanism that alters the baseline variables during the course of an integrated NEMS run.

Transportation Sector Module 1998 - Volume 2, Model Documentation
This appendix provides a detailed mathematical description of the transportation model. Equations
are presented in the order in which they are encountered in the code, identified by subroutine and model component. The equations follow the logic of the FORTRAN source code very closely to facilitate an understanding of the code and its structure. In several instances, a variable name will appear on both sides of an equation. This is a FORTRAN programming device t hat allows a previous
calculation to be updated (for example, multiplied by a factor) and re-stored under the same variable name.

Natural Gas Transmission and Distribution Model 1998, Model Documentation

Natural Gas Transmission and Distribution Model 1994, Model Documentation
The Natural Gas Transmission and Distribution Model (NGTDM) is the component of the National Energy Modeling System (NEMS) that is used to represent the domestic natural gas transmission and distribution system. NEMS was developed in the Office of Integrated Analysis and Forecasting of the Energy Information Administration (EIA).
NEMS is the third in a series of computer-based, midterm energy modeling systems used since 1974 by the EIA and its predecessor, the Federal Energy Administration, to analyze domestic energy-economy markets and develop projections. From 1982 through 1993, the Intermediate Future Forecasting System (IFFS) was used by the EIA for its analyses, and the Gas Analysis Modeling System (GAMS) was used within IFFS to represent natural gas markets.
Prior to 1982, the Midterm Energy Forecasting System (MEFS), also referred to as the Project Independence Evaluation System (PIES), was employed.

This report documents the objectives, analytical approach and development of the National Energy Modeling System Electricity Fuel Dispatch Submodule (EFD), a submodule of the Electricity Market Module (EMM). The report catalogues and describes the model assumptions, computational methodology, parameter estimation techniques, model source code, and forecast results generated through the synthesis and scenario development based on these components.

Electricity Capacity Planning Submodule of the Electricity Market Module, Model Documentation
This report documents the objectives and analytical approach of the ECP, which determines investment decisions such as capacity additions and compliance strategies for environmental regulations. It includes the key assumptions, computational methodology, and data requirements of the model. It is intended as a reference document providing a detailed description of the model for analysts, users and the public. It is also intended to meet the legal obligation of the Energy Information Administration (EIA) to provide adequate documentation in support of its models (Public Law 93-275, section 57(b)(1). The EFD, EFP, and LDSM are documented in separate reports.

DRI Model of the U.S. Economy -- Model Documentation:
Provides documentation on Data Resources, Inc., DRI Model of the U.S. Economy and the DRI Personal Computer Input/Output Model. It also describes the theoretical basis, structure and functions of both DRI models; and contains brief descriptions of the models and their equations.

Short-Term Integrated Forecasting System 1993 Model -- Model Documentation:
Documents the 1993 version of the short term forecasting model. Although the model is reestimated each quarter and has changed structurally since 1993, this document provides a good overview of the approach used.

Modeling Distributed Electricity Generation in the NEMS Buildings Models
This paper presents the modeling methodology, projected market penetration, and impact of distributed generation with respect to offsetting future electricity needs and carbon dioxide emissions in the residential and commercial buildings sector in the Annual Energy Outlook 2000 (AEO2000) reference case.

Load And Demand Side Management Submodule Vol 1, Model Description, Model Documentation
This report documents the Load and Demand Side Management (LDSM) submodule of the National
Energy Modelling System (NEMS). The NEMS is designed as an integrated model of U.S. energy production, conversion, supply, pricing, and consumption. The LDSM is a submodule of the Electricity Market Module (EMM) of the NEMS. The EMM receives electricity demand from the NEMS demand modules, fuel prices from the NEMS fuel supply modules, expectations from the NEMS system module, and macroeconomic parameters from the NEMS macroeconomic module. Using this data, the EMM estimates the actions taken by electric utilities and nonutilities, to meet demand in the most economic manner within
operational and environmental constraints.

Load And Demand Side Management Submodule Vol 2, Model Code, Model Documentation
Volume II of the documentation contains the actual source code of the LDSM submodule, and the cross reference table of its variables. The code is divided into two parts. The first part contains the main part of the
source code. The second part lists the INCLUDE files referenced inside the main part of the code.
