Oregon State University is using $490,000 in private donations to cover the shortfall for 3,400 students whose grants were reduced. The university is using federal aid to cover 200 students who were denied state grants.
For all of her 96 years, Roberta Frasier Anderson has been a woman ahead of her time. She became a family life specialist for Oregon State University. She was based in Corvallis and developed materials for family life programs throughout the state. She appeared on television and radio programs with tips for a healthy home life, and newspapers covered her work to help lower income families raise children.
OSU Cascades Campus interim director Becky Johnson appeared as Jay Frank’s guest on KOHD News’ Direct Connect in an 8-minute segment, talking about the campus, its strategic plan, and her background in forestry.

Blue Gold: World Water Wars Part I, part of the Institute for Water and Watersheds Film Series, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Memorial Union, room 208. The 45-minute film is based on the book Maude Barlow co-wrote with Tony Clarke, “Blue Gold: The Fight to Stop the Corporate Theft of the World’s Water”.
“Being Black,” a video of OSU students, staff, and faculty sharing the opportunities and challenges of being Black at OSU, will be shown from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lonnie B. Harris Cultural Center. It is part of the The Voices Project.

Anita Guerrini, Horning Professor in the Humanities in Oregon State University’s history department, will deliver a lecture titled “Do animals have a history, and why should we care?” at 4 p.m., Feb. 2, in the Memorial Union, room 109. This is the second lecture in the 2008-2009 Horning Lecture Series organized by the OSU Horning Endowment in the Humanities. As part of the concluding event of the Philosophy Department's “Ideas Matter” lecture series “The UN Declaration of Human Rights at 60” the philosophy department and the Corvallis Health Equity Alliance will be sponsoring a session on health, health care, and justice at 7 p.m. March 12, beginning with a panel discussion, which will be focused on the relationship between the social determinants of health and social justice issues related to health and health care. The event will include a reception and poster session at 8 p.m. in which the work done at OSU more broadly on the relationship of health issues to social justice issues will be highlighted. Faculty members as well as graduate and undergraduate students may submit proposals for posters to Jonathan Kaplan by Feb. 10.

NEW!Due to repairs to the sanitary sewer system, all parking spaces reserved for “Service Vehicles” between Education Hall and the Pharmacy Bldg, will be temporarily shut down between Jan.15 – 21. During this time, access to the loading dock at the Pharmacy Bldg., may also be restricted, due to construction work associated with these repairs.
NEW!Due to the replacement of the generator at Kerr Admin, five parking spaces closest to McAlexander Fieldhouse, extending east into the parking lot, will be temporarily shutdown. These are marked as ADA parking spaces and will be relocated in the parking lot and clearly marked for ADA parking.
Between Jan. 13-15, the parking lot north of the Benton Annex, between the Benton Annex and Benton Hall will be closed. Due to reconfiguration of the current parking spaces in the above listed lot, all parking spaces in the paved section will be temporarily shutdown. The ADA spaces will be relocated along the sidewalk in the north section of the lot.
