  • HSTAT - (National Library of Medicine (NLM) U.S.)  - Health Services/Technology Assessment Text is a searchable collection of large, full-text practice guidelines (including the Guide to Community Preventive Services), technology assessments and health information.

HSR Core Library Recommendations

  • Health Outcomes Core Library Recommendations, 2004 - (National Library of Medicine, NICHSR)  - An introduction answers the questions - What are health outcomes? and Why are they important? Lists of core and desired journals, books, databases, and Web sites are recommended for a basic library collection in health outcomes.
  • Health Services Research Methodology Core Library Recommendations, 2007 - (National Library of Medicine, NICHSR)  - The scope of methods employed by health services researchers is very wide. HSR methods encompass a variety of study frameworks, designs, and analytic techniques. These include a spectrum of methods, from understanding of various epistemological perspectives on research, to study designs including focus groups and randomized controlled trials, to specific analytic techniques such as longitudinal data analysis. These lists of core and desired books, journals, bibliographic databases, web sites, and other media in the field of health services research methods are intended to serve as guides for librarians and recent health services researchers.

  • Database of HSR&D Citations - (Health Services Research and Development Service, Veterans Administration (HSR&D))  - Updated monthly, this searchable database contains citations from journals, meetings, conferences, and reports that are credited to VA HSR&D researchers.
  • PubMed - (National Library of Medicine (NLM) U.S.)  - Search the MEDLINE database's 12 million records of articles from biomedical, preclinical, nursing, public health, and health services biomedical, preclinical, nursing, public health, and health services research journals.

  • Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved - (Johns Hopkins University Press (JHUP))  - Focuses exclusively on contemporary health care issues of low-income, under-represented, and other medically underserved communities. JHCPU is the official journal of the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved.

  • Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) Statistical Briefs - (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ))  - MEPS Statistical Briefs are easy-to-read, quick graphical summaries of MEPS data very much like MEPS Highlights. These statistical brief are only available on the MEPS website.
  • PHSI e-Newsletter - This is a quarterly email newsletter which contains features and updates on Harvard University Program for Health Systems Improvement (PHSI) sponsored projects, as well as listings of upcoming health policy-related events.
  • Research Activities Online Newsletter - (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ))  - Announcements of Agency products and projects and summaries of research findings from studies supported by AHRQ.

  • Cancer Communication Resources - (National Cancer Institute, NIH (NCI))  - Lists links to cancer communication resources, such as books, bibliographies, reports, monographs, and related websites.
  • Evidence Syntheses - (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ))  - This series was formerly known as Systematic Evidence Reviews (SERs). They are comprehensive reviews of the scientific evidence on the effectiveness of particular clinical preventive services.
  • Evidence-based Practice Center Reports - (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ))  - EPCs have conducted more than 100 systematic reviews and analyses of the literature on a wide spectrum of topics. The major products of the program are evidence reports, including comprehensive and more focused systematic reviews and technology assessments. These are based on rigorous syntheses and analyses of scientific literature and may include meta-analyses or cost analyses. The reports emphasize explicit and detailed documentation of methods, rationale, and assumptions.

  • National Healthcare Disparities Report, 2005 - (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ))  - The NHDR examines national disparities in both the ability of Americans to access health care and in the quality of health care. It includes an analysis of disparities related to socioeconomic position as well as to race and ethnicity, and attempts to capture the relationship between race/ethnicity and socioeconomic position. The report provides baseline data from which we may be able to measure the effect of national initiatives to reduce disparities.
  • National Healthcare Quality Report, 2005 - (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ))  - A comprehensive national overview of the quality of health care in the United States, including 179 performance measures and 46 "core" measures representing the most important and scientifically sound measures of quality.

  • Performance Measurement: Accelerating Improvement - (Institute of Medicine (IOM))  - The first report in the Pathways series, Performance Measurement: Accelerating Improvement, focuses on the selection of measures to support the quality improvement efforts of a diverse set of stakeholders, and on the creation of a common infrastructure for guiding and managing a consistent set of such measures nationally and regionally.

  • Technology Assessments - (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ))  - This program provides technology assessments for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). AHRQ's technology assessment program uses state-of-the-art methodologies for assessing the clinical utility of medical interventions. Technology assessments are based on a systematic review of the literature, along with appropriate qualitative and quantitative methods of synthesizing data from multiple studies.
  • VA HSR&D Publications - (Health Services Research and Development Service, Veterans Administration (HSR&D))  - VA HSR&D produces a number of publications, both print and electronic, for broad distribution within and outside VA.
