South Washington Watershed District
Location/Description
|
The South Washington Watershed District is located entirely in Washington County, Minnesota, and contains portions of five cities: Afton, Cottage Grove, Lake Elmo, Oakdale and Woodbury. The 35,000-acre watershed contains a number of landlocked drainage areas; however, the drainage is generally south, by either overland or subsurface flow, to the Mississippi River.

The South Washington Watershed District feasibility study was intended to encompass the entire watershed. If completed, the study would identify the federal and state interest in addressing problems related to flooding, loss of habitat, changed hydrologic regimes and water fluctuations and other impacts on the watershed system caused by human activity.

Status
|
A feasibility study cost sharing agreement was executed in September 2002. An in-progress review meeting was held in September 2004. Based on recommendation made at the in-progress review, a comprehensive watershed management plan was to be prepared as part of this study. The study is currently on hold due to a lack of federal funding. With the limited remaining funding the St. Paul District intends to complete hydrologic modeling and document the investigation work performed todate. If additional federal funding is provided, the Corps would continue to work with the watershed district to incorporate study findings into the district's watershed plan.
