After more than nine years since the New Carissa freighter ran aground on Oregon’s shore, the state is now removing the ship’s remaining wreckage.
Activity began in late March, when the barges for the removal process arrived in the Coos Bay area, and will continue through summer until the removal operations are completed. Both barges are now in place to the north and west of the wreck, and crews have begun removal operations.
This Web page will be continually updated with information about the removal process. Check frequently for the most current information.
