With collections totaling more than 34 million volumes, the more than 100 libraries throughout UC are surpassed in size on the American continent only by the Library of Congress collection. UC has 3.6 million square feet of library building space and more than 36 miles of archival and manuscript materials.

Individually, UC Berkeley boasts the top-ranked library among public universities in North America, according to the Association of Research Libraries' 2002 rankings.
