June 22, 1998: Office of Personnel Management Director Janice R. Lachance has issued new guidelines to address challenges with retaining qualified computer programmers to deal with the Year 2000 computer programming difficulties in the federal workplace. [News Release]

Lachance today announced the assignment of a Voting Rights Examiner to the States of Mississippi and South Carolina for the primary run-off elections. June 17, 1998: Office of Personnel Management Director Janice Lachance today announced the winners of the 1998 OPM Directors Awards for Outstanding Work and Family Programs. The awards program showcases agencies that have implemented President Clintons directive to develop family-friendly workplaces. An awards ceremony will be on Thursday, June 18. [News Release]

June 10, 1998: The Office of Personnel Management will convene a three-day conference in McLean, Virginia, in September to address current concerns and questions federal agencies have about providing employee assistance and health programs to improve the mental and physical health of employees. June 4, 1998: U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director Janice R. Lachance will discuss federal human resource management for the 21st century on in Atlanta on Tuesday, June 9. In addition to Director Lachances presentation, senior-level officials from OPM will present an overview of the human resource agencys program areas, including discussions on pay and classification systems, performance management systems, flexible hiring and promotion policies, and the retirement and benefits system. The following day Director Lachance will convene a day-long skills-building session at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. [News Release]

June 3, 1998: The U.S. Office of Personnel Management will receive a special award from the Small Business Administration (SBA) for the human resources agencys work to utilize small businesses, small disadvantaged businesses, and women-owned businesses in the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) program.
