TOBYHANNA ARMY DEPOT, TOBYHANNA, PENNSYLVANIA, TO RECEIVE FEDERAL QUALITY AWARD

Washington, D.C. -- The Tobyhanna Army Depot, U.S. Department of the Army, Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania, will receive a Program Finalist award during the Presidents Quality Award Program ceremony for improving customer service and saving tax dollars.

The federal award will be presented by U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director Janice R. Lachance on:

Wednesday, June 17, 1998 (11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)
International Trade Center at the Ronald Reagan Building
1300 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W. (Amphitheater)
Washington, D.C.

Director Lachance also will present the Defense Contract Management Command Long Island with the Presidential Award for Quality, the governments top honor for quality improvement.

Tobyhanna Army Depot is the Defense Departments largest facility for the repair and maintenance of hundreds of advanced military communications-electronics systems. Systems supported by Tobyhanna include satellite communications terminals, radios, radars, intelligence/electronic warfare, and other specialized and unique systems. Other systems include position locating systems, artillery fire control and automatic data processing systems.

The depots large engineering staff enables Tobyhanna to take-on challenging design and manufacturing projects. Many of these projects include the downsizing of existing systems, making them easier to deploy worldwide. The depots system integration mission blends engineering and manufacturing capabilities to deliver prototype and low-production systems to the Department of Defenses weapon system developers.

In recent years, Tobyhanna has expanded its role in technology insertion, not only extending the life but improving the performance of many communications-electronics systems.
