Synoptic Movies

We have compiled the available browse images into MPEGs with A-B pairs for each of the telescopes. The durations vary by telescope from 1 to 4 weeks, but all are 1024x512 pixels. Sizes range around 3-16 MB. Select year and telescope/wavelength from the sidebar.

There are also two large-format (2048x1024) MPEG movies which show the last week in all 10 telescopes on the two spacecraft: COR1/COR2/HI1/HI2 (~85MB) and EUVI-171/195/184/304A (~17MB). These movies are updated daily.

Javascript Movies

We have an interactive tool for you to choose a subset of a given day's browse images for a given telescope and display as a javascript movie. This is appropriate for recent data. You can also see Favorite Solar Events for some selected events in the Javascript movie tool.

From August 1-12, 2011, the STEREO-B spacecraft rolled 135 deg for two hours each day to observe Comet Elenin, which passed the spacecraft at a distance of just 0.05 AU.

A full sequence of images taken by the SECCHI HI-1A instrument between January 11 and 18, 2007. Each HI-1 image is a sum of twenty-four, 24-second exposures taken two minutes apart. One of these "summed" images is taken every two hours.
Note that also visible in these movies is Venus (bright object left of center at the botttom) and Mercury (appears from to right later in the sequence).

This movie shows a sequence of images, including a very nice CME, taken by the SECCHI COR-2A instrument. Both movies are showing the same data but the movie on the left is a "total brightness" image, the one on the right is a "polarized brightness" image.
