U.S./Canada Emergency Planning Committee for Civil Transportation

The Emergency Preparedness Committee for Civil Transportation (EPCCT) was originally established under the 1986 joint U.S./Canada Agreement on Cooperation in Comprehensive Civil Emergency Planning and Management.  The role of the EPCCT was to coordinate the mutual interest of civil transportation preparedness. Currently, and in this regard, the Governments of Canada, Mexico and the United States have entered into a Trilateral Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) with participation by the respective national Departments and Agencies to develop and implement appropriate emergency preparedness activities.  Accordingly, Transport Canada and the U.S. Department of Transportation will explore new initiatives and continue the coordinated work in the areas of civil emergency transportation preparedness plans and arrangements.  Meetings take place annually alternately in Canada and the United States by mutual agreement of the co-chairs.  Ad-hoc meetings may be called by mutual agreement of the co-chairs.
