K-12 Educational Programming

Having served over 10,000 K-12 students during the 2012-2013 school year, the U.S. Army Women’s Museum has a proven record of providing quality programming for students of all ages. The education team has worked diligently to create unique and engaging programs which incorporate hands-on learning and critical thinking while at the same time supporting and enhancing the Virginia Standards of Learning. All programs include the exploration of historical artifacts and/or archives as well as historic interpretation through the use of period clothing.

School groups are welcome to visit the museum where they will have access to state-of-the-art classrooms and multimedia features. In addition, students will have the opportunity to explore the gallery which tells the story of women’s contributions to the U.S. Army from the American Revolution until the present.

The USAWM education team is also available to provide outreach programming to local schools. The staff understands the complexities of field trip planning and has developed a series of outreach programs in response. Complete with a traveling trunk, museum educators will come to your school and deliver an interactive and exciting program for your class or an entire grade level.
