Mission: To provide comprehensive public health services for
U.S. Army personnel and their families stationed in Alaska.

Scope of Practice: Infectious disease outbreak investigation,
reporting, and control including TB, STDs, and hepatitis.
Travel/deployment medicine consultation. Cold Weather Injury monitoring
and prevention. Occupational Health medical surveillance. Health
Promotion Services to include health education, oversight of the Anthrax
and Smallpox Vaccination Programs, and tobacco cessation programs.
Environmental Health Services to include sanitation inspections,
monitoring of potable water quality, oversight of hazardous waste
disposal, and hospital infection control. Chairman for Infection Control
Committee. Provide oversight and consultative services for PM programs
at Forts Wainwright, Greely, and Richardson.

Promotion/Prevention through education and awareness.
- Scope of Practice:
To educate and promote healthy behaviors by encouraging all of our
beneficiaries to take an active role in maintaining the health and well
being of themselves and their family. To decrease medical appointments
by providing preventive health education along with community outreach
programs to the Fort Wainwright populace. Arctic Health Link initiatives
are based on the Healthy People 2000 and 2010 directives and utilize the
National Health Observance Calendar. Other community outreach programs
are provided as needed specific to Fort Wainwright’s population-based
data. Most importantly, we are the “link” for beneficiaries to other
agencies on Fort Wainwright that provide community health resources and
education.

- Community Health Nursing (CHN)
- Mission: To assist
with the transition of care from the hospital to the home through
discharge planning, assists social work service, manage Tuberculosis and
Sexually Transmitted Diseases, contact interviews, administration of
Cold Weather and other Climactic Injury Prevention programs, maintain
Tuberculosis Registry, serve as health consultant to Child and Youth
Services, and manage the Smoking Cessation Program.
- Scope of Practice:
Assistance to new mothers and those needing help with parenting skills:
oversight of Child Development Services; education of parents whose
children have accidental poisonings; evaluation of home life and
parenting ability when abuse is suspected or special needs arise; and
assistance with hospital Discharge Planning. Contact interview,
individual and group education for communicable diseases. Monitoring of
tuberculosis chemoprophylaxis. Cold weather injury interviews and
education. Track animal bites and process animal bite reports thru the
Rabies Advisory Board.

- Mission: To provide
Environmental Health Services to all soldiers, civilians, and military
family members stationed in Alaska.
- Scope of Practice:
Provides sanitary inspections of all foodservice, childcare, community
recreation and housing facilities. Performs healthcare facility
sanitation inspections. Performs Drinking Water Surveillance Program
functions. Provides Environmental Health Hazard Assessments. Provides
oversight to Integrated Pest Management Program for all three Alaska
posts. Supports Climatic Injury Prevention Program. Provides oversight
to Installation Waste Disposal Program. Provides oversight to
Environmental Compliance for BACH. Provides support to Radiation
Protection Program and Laser Safety Program.

- Industrial Health (IH)
- Mission: To provide
Industrial Hygiene Services to all civilian employees and soldiers at,
Fort Richardson, Fort Wainwright and Fort Greely.
- Scope of Practice:
Services include health hazard recognition and assessments of industrial
workplaces. Evaluation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Evaluation of engineering controls that limit worker health hazard
exposures. Quantitative and qualitative fit testing of personnel for
respirators. IH coordinates with Occupational Health for health
screening and follow-up of personnel exposed to hazardous materials or
conditions. Chief, IH provides supervision and oversight of all
industrial hygiene support at all three Army installations in Alaska.

- Occupational Health Clinic (OHC)
- Mission: To provide
Occupational Health Services to all civilian employees and soldiers at
Fort Wainwright.
- Scope of Practice:
Services include initial health assessment; annual and required health
screening. Follow-up care/case management of individuals with
occupational injuries and illness, with the goal to return to work.
Coordinates with Industrial Hygiene Services and Post Safety Office in
the prevention of injury and exposure accidents. Protect soldiers and
civilian employees on all three Alaska posts through program management.
