Contraception options should be discussed with your primary care manager (PCM). The majority of contraception choices can be prescribed by your PCM.

Permanent Sterilization:

Women wanting permanent sterilization can request that their PCM enter a consult (referral) to our GYN Clinic. Most of our providers want the woman to be 25 years old with a least 2 children. Sterilization can be done on younger women who have more than 2 children. Women with extenuating circumstances who do not meet the above criteria can have a consult placed and their case will be reviewed.

Intrauterine Device (IUD):

Women wanting an IUD should be screened by their PCM before a consult is placed with our GYN clinic. To be a candidate for an IUD the woman should be married or in a long-term monogamous relationship.

The woman needs a recent normal Pap smear, no abnormal Pap in the last 1 yr. and no recent/current sexually transmitted disease.

After discussion with her PCM, if the woman is a good candidate and desires an IUD the PCM will place a consult to our GYN clinic if unable to do an IUD insertion in their own clinic. The first appointment in our clinic will be a counseling appointment. The provider will ensure that a recent Pap and STD test have been done and provide counseling on choices and risks. After the counseling appointment an IUD insertion appointment will be made. A pregnancy test will be done on the day of the insertion appointment.
