Maj. Gen Jeffrey N. Colt is a native of Ithaca, New York and a graduate of the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado. He arrived as DIVWEST commander from his previous assignment as the Deputy Commanding General (Support) for U.S. Forces-Afghanistan and Commander, National Support Element.

Maj. Gen. Colt served in a range of command and staff assignments including: Deputy Commanding General, XVIIIth Airborne Corps, Deputy Commanding General (Support) of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Brigade Commander of the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Commander, 1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Commander, 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry, 82d Airborne Division, and Troop Commander in the 10th Mountain Division, and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne).

His overseas assignments include: Germany, and operational deployments for Operation Prime Chance in the Persian Gulf, Operation Just Cause in Panama, Operation Restore Hope in Somalia, Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq, and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Maj. Gen. Colt is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic Course, the Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course, as well as the Aviation Officer Advanced Course. He is a Command and General Staff College and National War College graduate. He has earned a Master of Arts in Management and a Master of Arts in National Security Studies.
