We encourage visitors to discover Arlington's rich history, witness the time-honored ceremonies, take in the scenic landscapes and grounds, wander through the headstones and monuments, reflect on the names, and ponder the stories each person could tell.

Directions

Arlington National Cemetery is located across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. at the end of Memorial Avenue, the parkway which extends from Memorial Bridge, near the Lincoln Memorial. Along this parkway is the rotary intersection with the scenic George Washington Memorial Parkway. Arlington is accessible from the major roadways in the D.C. area like Interstate 95, the Capital Beltway (I-495), the George Washington Memorial Parkway and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (I-295). The cemetery is also a stop on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Metrorail system and Metrobus, each are a short walk to the gates of Arlington. View Public Transportation

Tours

Arlington National Cemetery welcomes visitors to explore the rich history found within the cemetery grounds. Arlington National Cemetery Tours, Inc., provides an interpretative tour bus service through Arlington with weekday stops at the Ord & Weitzel walking gate to see the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial, President John F. Kennedy gravesite, U.S. Coast Guard Memorial, U.S. Army Gen. John J. Pershing's gravesite, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the Arlington House (The Robert E. Lee Memorial). Weekend service also includes stops near Section 55 and 60 and the Sept. 11 Memorial.

Vehicle and bus access is generally not authorized. Driving into the cemetery is allowed for those attending a funeral service. Those with a valid disability placard can ride the interpretive bus service at no cost (with one companion).

Starting January 2, 2015, Arlington National Cemetery will offer a free shuttle service for individuals to visit a gravesite.

Bus access to the Memorial Amphitheater and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier for honor flights are accepted six months to a year in advance of the group's visit, but must be submitted at least two weeks in advance. Parking is available for buses in the parking facility.

ANC Explorer

ANC Explorer is a web-based and mobile application that enables families, visitors and the public to locate gravesites, events or other points of interest throughout the cemetery; view front-and-back headstone photos and points of interest; and receive directions to those locations. ANC Explorer also offers self-guided tours, easy access to general information, and provides the ability to save searched burial records to a mobile device. The app is available for public use on kiosks in the cemetery.
