*NOTE: Effective May 29, 2015: The Memorial Bridge that leads from the entrance of Arlington National Cemetery to the Lincoln Memorial will be partially shut down for emergency repairs. Additional repairs are expected to begin in July and last 6-9 months. There is a 10-ton limit across the entire length of the bridge that will remain in effect indefinitely.

Getting to the Cemetery From the South

Drive north on I-95. Near the Capital Beltway, I-95 will merge with I-495.

Do NOT merge onto I-495. Continue traveling north on I-395 north toward Washington, D.C.

Take exit 8-B (Arlington National Cemetery exit) to Route 27.

Stay in the left lane until reaching the traffic circle (on the Virginia side of the Memorial Bridge). Bear right in the left hand lane around the traffic circle to Memorial Avenue. You will see the Arlington House on the hill ahead.

*Note: Between the hours of 6 a.m. - 9 a.m., the United States Park Police barricades the section of Memorial Circle that connects with the west bound lanes of Route 27.

Getting to the Cemetery From the North

Drive south on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (MD – 295) or south on I-95 until you reach to the Capital Beltway (I-495).

You can travel on either I-95 or on I-495.

If you follow I-95, stay on the Beltway to I-395 north and then take exit 8-B (Arlington National Cemetery exit) to Route 27. Stay in the left lane until reaching the traffic circle (on the Virginia side of the Memorial Bridge). Bear right in the left hand lane around the traffic the circle to Memorial Avenue. You will see the Arlington House on the hill ahead.

If you follow I-495, stay on the Beltway to the George Washington Parkway. Continue on the GW Parkway and then take the Arlington Cemetery-Memorial Bridge exit. Merge left with the traffic exiting from Route 110. At the stop sign, make a left onto Memorial Avenue. 

Getting to the Cemetery From the West

Follow Route 66 east to exit 73 for Lee Highway.  Note: Route 66 east is HOV-2 (two or more people must be in vehicle) from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. If you do not have the required number of people, follow directions noted with a star (*).

Follow Lee Highway to Fort Myer Drive. Make a right on to Fort Myer Drive. Follow Fort Myer Drive, and immediately after passing over a bridge, make a left on Route 50.

The Iwo Jima Memorial will be to your right. Follow Route 50 and stay in the right hand lane.

Exit onto George Washington Parkway and stay in the right hand lane. Continue on the GW Parkway and then take the Arlington Cemetery-Memorial Bridge exit. Merge left with the traffic exiting from Route 110. At the stop sign, make a left turn onto Memorial Avenue.

*Follow Route 66 east to I-495 south and exit onto Route 50 toward Arlington. Exit onto George Washington Parkway (will show as "Memorial Br/Geo Wash Pkwy"). Continue on the GW Parkway and then take the Arlington Cemetery-Memorial Bridge exit. Merge left with the traffic exiting from Route 110. At the stop sign, make a left onto Memorial Avenue.

Funeral Starting Points

Funerals that start at the Administration Building or Memorial Avenue

There will be a security guard who will be directing all traffic into the Welcome Center parking facility.

If you are visiting the cemetery for a funeral, stay to the right on Memorial Avenue and inform the security guard that you are attending a funeral. Please provide the name of the decedent to the guard.

If you are going to a service at the Administration Building, please continue on Memorial Avenue as instructed by the guard.

If you are attending a chapel service prior to a funeral, you will not be able to drive to the Old Post Chapel or Memorial Chapel on Joint-Base Myer-Henderson Hall from Arlington National Cemetery without a DoD Common Access Card (CAC). All vehicles without a DoD CAC must enter through the JBM-HH Hatfield Gate.

Directions to the Memorial Chapel and Old Post Chapel from the Welcome Center

Head northeast on Memorial Avenue from the Welcome Center.

Take an immediate left onto the exit for Route 110 (if you go over an overpass, you have gone too far).

Take a right exit onto Route 27 (Washington Blvd.)

Follow exit signs toward Fort Myer. The sign will say "Fort Myer Only" on the right. This is the Hatfield Gate.

Once through the Hatfield Gate, follow straight on Carpenter Road. Turn left onto McNair Road. The Memorial Chapel is on the right.

To reach the Old Post Chapel, follow McNair Road until you reach a four-way stop at the corner of McNair and Lee Avenue. Turn right on Lee Avenue. The Old Post Chapel is on the left.

Beginning on Saturday, April 16, 2016, driver’s licenses and identification cards from some state and territories in the United States do not comply with the Real ID Act of 2006 and will no longer be accepted as primary identification for people to gain access to Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall (JBM-HH).
