School Policies and Procedures

Before enrolling in a Department of Defense school, students are required to have immunizations according to the DoDEA Immunization Requirements. While these immunizations are required to attend DoD schools, the Military Services, not the schools, are responsible for giving students their immunizations. For more information on immunizations for school, contact your school nurse.

Registration for Maxwell AFB Elementary School is ongoing.  Dependent children of military sponsors who will be 4 years old on or before September 1st through sixth grade and who live in permanent government quarters are eligible to attend Maxwell AFB Elementary School. Forms for new students are available in the school office from 8:30 until 3:30 or on the FORMS tab at the top of this page
~Registration requirements are as follows:

  • A certified birth certificate from the Department of Vital Statistics of the state of birth or the child's passport (a copy will be retained). Children entering school for the first time (pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, or grade 1) will not be registered for school until one of these documents is provided. If the sponsor is not listed on the birth certificate as a biological parent, the child's dependency and custody determination must be documented before enrollment is approved. Please call 334.953.7804 for a list of required documents.
  • Immunization Certificate- Please present a complete immunization record (available from the base immunizations clinic) in keeping with the DoDEA requirements. DoDEA requirements are different from the state of Alabama. You may bring an Alabama Blue Card, as long as the other documentation (DD Form 2766C) is also provided. Please let the clinic know that you will be attending the base school. You must have this documentation to complete registration - we cannot wait for the copy from another school as there is often a significant delay in receiving records. Note: Some preschoolers will not be four years old prior to registration and cannot get their final shot until they have had their fourth birthday. As long as other immunizations are in order, records will be held for preliminary registration until this requirement can be met upon the child ’ s fourth birthday. Students not meeting immunization requirements will not be allowed to attend school until this requirement is met.
  • Documentation of sponsor's housing assignment in permanent family quarters either by a housing letter, housing assignment voucher, a copy of the singed RCI lease agreement, or a 90 day letter form the appropriate Housing Office. No child will be registered for school without this documentation.
  • Documentation of sponsor's active duty status (current orders) or Full-time DoD employment (civilians) status. No child will be registered for school without this documentation.
  • New students only: Copy of school records (if available), copy of most recent report card and the name and address of the prior school (you will be requested to sign a Request for Records Release). Please notify the secretary if your child has additional confidential records, including a special education IEP.
