This chart shows how commuters responded to the oil price spike of 2008. Almost half of commuters surveyed said high gasoline prices affected their work arrangements or how they commuted to work. Of those, increased carpooling or ridesharing was the most common response. Telecommuting and purchasing a more fuel efficient car were the next two most popular responses, followed by measures that reduce commuting distance.
