183rd Fighter Wing

The 183rd Fighter Wing is located at Capitol Airport in Springfield, Illinois. The history of this unit spans more than 60 years and 5 aircraft. From the beginning, its members have made significant contributions to its response and leadership roles during state emergencies, and its active duty mission support of the United States Air Force. The 183rd Fighter Wing is tasked with organizing, planning, and executing the air war in a contingency or campaign, and assisting the Air Force staff in bedding down Air Force members in the theater.

<p>Maintaining a secure chain of communication from one base to another is vital to the operations of the Air National Guard. During a natural disaster or on a war-time mission, there's no time to waste with communications systems that are anything less than perfect. Cable and Antenna Systems Specialists ensure that these connections are clear, unbroken and secure at all times, all over the world. In this job, you'll provide command and control capabilities with fixed cable and wireless distribution systems, local area networks, and wide area networks in support of tactical and strategic operations.</p><p>Cable and Antenna Systems Specialists are specially trained in:</p><ul><li>Electrical/light wave communications on aerial, buried and underground cable systems</li><li>Antenna fundamentals, including antenna theory and principles of rotators, amplifiers and control cables</li><li>Antenna installation procedures, including radio frequency cable, waveguide splicing, and repair and maintenance techniques of radomes</li><li>Operation and theory of cable pressurization, alarm systems, locating cable faults, and identifying causes of deterioration in cable systems</li><li>Safety precautions related to oxygen deficiency, oxygen enrichment, toxic and explosive gases, working aloft, rescue procedures for aerial and underground environments, basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation</li><li>Corrosion prevention and control procedures</li><li>Normal color vision and depth perception</li><li>Normal gait and balance </li><li>Physical ability to perform climbing duties </li><li>Freedom from fear of heights and claustrophobia</li></ul> Communication Cable & Antenna Systems

<p>The safety and security of the people, property and resources of the Air National Guard is the sole mission of Security Forces. A career as a Security Forces Specialist requires extensive training in law enforcement and combat tactics since you'll work both stateside on bases and overseas where you'll often patrol off base. In this role, you'll ensure the safety of all base weapons, property and personnel from hostile forces, conduct investigations into any on-base incidents, apprehend and detain suspects, secure crime scenes and testify in judicial proceedings. You will also be involved in team patrol movements, tactical drills, battle procedures and military operations other than war.
