132nd Fighter Wing

The 132nd Fighter Wing, located at the Des Moines International Airport, is a fighter unit operationally gained by the Air Combat Command. It can trace its roots back to February 1941 with the establishment of the 124th Observation Squadron. Since then, the 132nd Fighter Wing has participated in numerous actions including World War II, the Korean Conflict, and many of the support functions of Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. The 132nd Fighter Wing's F-16 Fighting Falcon is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft. Its mission is to provide a relatively low-cost, high-performance weapon system for the United States and allied nations.

<p>The Air National Guard makes constant use of high-tech communication techniques that require expert Spectrum Operations Technicians to ensure nothing interferes with the delivery and reception of all Air Guard electromagnetic broadcasts. The Spectrum Operations Technician analyzes requirements and requests frequencies to support terrestrial, aircraft, and space systems and to coordinate radio, radar, land, and other electromagnetic radiating or receiving requirements. <p>A single Air Guard unit produces miles of paperwork and houses several tons of equipment to service multiple aircraft. As you can imagine, people, paper and equipment are often going in a million different directions. It's the job of the Traffic Management Specialist to keep order in this otherwise chaos-driven environment. In this role, you're in charge of making sure everything gets into the right hands at the right time. You'll do everything from ensuring that shipments are ready for transport, inspecting freight for damage, keeping accurate records, and operating forklifts, pallet trucks, and hand trucks. You'll prepare transportation requests and authorizations for loading and unloading shipments, arrange for quality-control visits to personal property pickup sites, as well as provide quality checks of airline routings and fare computations. The work of the Traffic Management Specialist is vital, because when disaster strikes, the Air Guard must be ready to respond immediately with the right tools.</p><p>Traffic Management Specialists are specially trained in:</p><ul><li>Federal and military transportation regulations, instructions, and directives</li><li>Passenger and personal property entitlements</li><li>Quality assurance evaluation procedures, United States and foreign customs regulations, and warehousing procedures</li><li>Military passenger, freight, and personal property rate computations</li><li>Packaging methods, specifications, and orders</li><li>Hazardous cargo requirements</li><li>Blocking, bracing, and tie down principles</li><li>Carrier capabilities and procedures for movement of passengers, cargo, and personal property in military and commercial air, rail, truck, and water systems</li></ul> Traffic Management
