FUNCTIONAL ACADEMIC SKILLS TRAINING (FAST) - The FAST program is the commanders' primary on-duty education program. This program is designed to promote retention, reenlistment options and improve job performance. Soldiers who do not meet reenlistment requirements or have a GT score <=100 or who score below 10.2 grade equivalent level on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) are eligible for the FAST program.
The curriculum is extremely flexible and is tailored to each individual's need. FAST is self-paced and uses a variety of resources found in the Army Learning Center.
The program requires only two hours per day for approximately 6 weeks. You can participate between the hours of 0800 - 1645. It is suggested that you stay for at least 2 hours each day.
FAST can be used by soldiers, authorized civilians and family members to help increase their academic competencies and job skills necessary for performance and career growth.
The first step in the enrollment process is to identify academic weaknesses. Once identified you are assigned lessons that will remediate areas of academic weakness.
FAST has a multi-purpose. The program focus could be on studying for the GED, or improving academic skills needed to succeed in Non-Commissioned Officer Education System (NCOES) courses, or improving your word knowledge, paragraph comprehension and arithmetic reasoning academic skills in order to raise your GT score or finally to prepare for a College Placement Exam.
