Daily Truck Freight Tons
Source: Federal Highway Administration (FHA). National Statistics and Maps. 2007.
Approximately 37% of motor fuel (gasoline and diesel) is used to transport freight (FHA 2010), the majority of which is diesel fuel. Therefore, the amount of freight transported by truck every day is a key indicator of where large quantities of diesel fuel are being used. This is important to keep in mind when determining where to expand infrastructure, such as electric truck stops and fueling stations for alternative fuels such as biodiesel, compressed natural gas (CNG), and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
