OBJECTIVES/DESCRIPTION OF CLERKSHIP:

Exposure to a wide range of musculoskeletal problems and injuries is provided by assignment as a member of one of the two Orthopedic Teams. Each clerk will work directly with a junior resident in patient care, under supervision of senior residents and staff. Emphasis is placed on development of physical examination skills, but will include manual skill development such as cast application, arthrocentesis, suturing, and fracture and wound management. Patients assigned will primarily be of a more acute nature, although the clerks can participate in inpatient care and assist in surgery, and night or weekend call with a resident is encouraged. Daily conferences include Morning Report at 0700 and post-op conference following morning report. Orthopedic Lectures and Conferences are conducted each Monday. Weekdays begin at 0630 with Ward Rounds and end in the late afternoon.
