Transition Center

Mission: To provide a smooth transition for Fort Lee Soldiers that are separating from the Army. To ensure final disposition of records and to counsel Soldiers on benefits. Also to ensure a DD Form 214 is prepared for all Soldiers being released or discharged from active duty.

Operating Procedures for Chapters - On a Case by Case Basis

Operating Procedures for Expiration of Term of Service "ETS"

  • Mandatory ETS briefing held the 2nd Tuesday of each month in a Classroom in the Soldier Support Center
  • Soldiers taking terminal leave must provide a DA Form 31 (Leave Form) 45 days prior to leave
  • Separation orders are published 60 - 90 days prior to ETS/ESA date
  • Orders are signed for and picked up by the Unit Clerk in the Transition Center

Operating Procedures for Physical Disabilities Separation

  • Transition Center receives electronic approval from HQDA, Physical Disabilities Branch and publishes separation orders within 24 - 48 hours of notification.
  • Physical Evaluation Liaison Officer is located at Kenner Army Hospital at (804) 734-9349.
  • Liaison will contact the Soldier's unit and provide the date the Soldier must separate by and request a DA Form 31 for PTDY (permissive TDY).
  • Soldier will handcarry a copy of DA Form 31 indicating PTDY and actual separation date to Transition Center.
  • DA Form 199 (Physical Evaluation Board (PEB) processings and Medical and Dental Records must be handcarried to the Transition Center.

Company Grade & Warrant Officer Separations

Company grade (LT & CPT) and Warrant Officer separating must report to the Reserve Counselor in the Retention Office for counseling prior to separating.

OBC Officers

OBC Officers that attend a course at another military installation prior to reporting to Fort Lee for their Basic Course must ensure their reassignment orders cover attendance at both courses in order to not have a break in service. If not, it will cause discrepancies in completing the DD Form 214. For additional information contact the Fort Lee Transition Center at (804) 734-7790/7789 prior to arriving at Fort Lee.

Transmitting documents via digital senders

NETCOM has mandated that transmitting documents via digital senders and email to file is no longer acceptable. At present, the only secure option for electronically transmitting the separation packet is the Web Upload. This secures the document being sent to IPERMS. Effective 31 Jan 07, all Transition centers will be required to use Web Upload when transmitting separation packets. Fort Lee Transition Center employ's digital senders to transmit documents. Digital signatures shall be applied by using function of the Common Access Card (CAC).
