Training for Collaborations / Establishing Support Orders

Legal orders set out the amount of child support necessary to ensure the financial security of the child, based on the incomes of the parents.

  • State/Tribe guidelines help determine how much a parent should pay in child support.
  • Orders can be established by a court or by an administrative hearing process.
  • Provisions for health insurance coverage must be included in a support order.

Child support enforcement officials are required to review child support orders at least every three years. They will look sooner if circumstances change greatly and either parent asks for a review.
