The Aviano area presents particular safety/security hazards. Narrow, congested streets are typical of the area.  It's very important to remember that, in Italy traffic does not have to stop for school buses when loading/unloading. Aviano has one of the biggest School Bus Operations in Europe for pupil transportation. The Aviano School Transportation Office is committed to provide safe, responsive and efficient school bus transportation for DoDDS students, and effective management of government contracts.

Our numbers:

• about 1,500 students being transported to/from school every day;
• 2,050 Miles or about 3,300 Km are performed each day;
• 39 vehicles are on the road every morning to provide bus transportation;
• 1,106 different bus stops are established and 502 are used;
• 111 towns and villages are served.

Transportation is provided to students residing within the Aviano Commuting Area. It's important that before a family leases or rents any type of housing, our office is contacted to determine whether bus service can be provided. If the sponsor chooses to live outside the commuting area, he/she will be responsible for transporting their child to and from the nearest established bus stop on a scheduled route.
